Hi

As per the title I really do need to find somewhere that can sort my bl00dy car out as it is doing my head in. Doesn't have to be a VAG specialist just anywhere in the UK...I will travel. Forget Seat dealers please, if their computer says all is fine they don't want to know. I'd sooner pay and have someone go over the car with a fine tooth comb....somewhere with a RR would be preferable.

Please give details of anywhere that you have had positive experiences with.
Thanks for any help

It might help if you actually say what's wrong with your car and what you want/expect people to fix?

Sorry mate.

In a nutshell - sluggish behaviour and throttle response, becomes worse as car warms up. MAF replaced, new CTS (green version), new DV (Bosch unit), 3 VAGCOM runs which has showed no faults. Throttle body adaptation usually restores the car to how it should be but only for brief periods (usually for the first drive once the TBA has been done but this doesn't always work). Car is 100% standard (54 plate LCR).

PS - not due to hot weather, car has been like this since winter and the best day it has had since was a week ago which was on the 2nd hottest day of the year - car was amazing.

No RR at the moment Ed....i think thats whats really needed to help get a grasp on something.

I think he's tried there

it's the weirdest issue though, nobody ever see's it apart from russ (joking)

youve possibly done this already but has the tb been cleaned out?

you could try calling jabbasport, but i know there busy over there

If you are anywhere near Cambridge then www.audi-specialists.co.uk are very good.

Something else you may want to try.... My Bro has a Alhambra 1.9TDi with a drive my wire throttle; He was imtermittantly losing all power and generally getting non-smooth power delivery. SEAT replaced the MAF and coolant temp sensor then decided they didn't know what was wrong. My Bro hadn't told me any of this 'til last week, at the weekend we decided to work through the whole system to see if anything was damaged, loose, dirty etc. Turned out that the contacts on the throttle potentiometer (the bit the pedal attaches to) were filthy. We cleaned them up and the car picks up smoothly and so far hasn't lost power again (although it's only been a few days).

Could be worth a try? It's fairly simple to strip and re-fit.

Yes mate, had the TB cleaned....unsure if it was that or the TBA but the car's performance was retored for a day (*blows whistle*)...that's one happy day of ownership for a few months.

I was thinking of Jabba for 2 reasons: 1 they are familiar with VAG cars and 2 they have a rolling road. Awesome - I heard their most experienced mechanic (Andy) has now left...

I think I shall give Jabba a bell....failing that someone on here had some luck with Owen Developments...they have a RR but not sure how familiar they are with the 1.8t.

*sigh* I wish someone would drive my car for a week, they would see it all.

Tallpaul and Andy, thank you both very much for your posts, I will investigate your suggestions. Greatly appreciated!

Depends where you are. If your near south Wales. Westec are very helpful. They take care of my car, and have always been very helpful.

Hi everyone, bit of an update going on

I e-mailed all the suggested tuners / specialists that you suggested (except Awesome) and so far I have had replies from Stealth, Votex and MRCTuning.

Stealth have said they had an LCR with similar problems and it was a faulty throttle body, however it did log a fault...they have offered to swap a throttle body onto mine for £80+VAT and see how it goes for a week...if no joy then they will swap it back and reimburse me £50 which I think is very fair.

Anyway above all this my car has developemt a new symptom this week which I'm really, really hoping could shed some more light on the problem. Basically it is now having trouble starting from cold...each morning it fires up, coughs, misfires (rev needle almost sticks then jumps up to about 2.5k) and either stalls or just about maintains enough revs to keep going...sometimes making a 'put put put misfire' sound for about 20 seconds and causing vibration from the exhaust. Once it levels itself out it will then start again as normal....it's only when left for 6 hours plus that it has trouble starting again.

The exhaust tip is now really black and the car has become even more sluggish with even worse throttle response! Tonight I didn't even take it over 3k revs, it just does not want to go...

Anyway based on the above I have again booked into SEAT - next thursday is the earliest they can do. I'm going to ask them to look at the lambdas and CAT in particular...even though there is a misfire on cold starts I don't think this is a coilpack issue as the car does not misfire at all when in motion, it just feels like the exhaust is blocked up and there is no boost :( What makes me scratch my head is that a faulty CTS would display symptoms very similar to mine yet I upgraded to the new greentop version a few weeks ago and it made no change....surely the new one can't be duff as well!?

I'm so fed up guys, this just makes me so annoyed.
