Car's got no boost running 0.4 bar and I reckon this could be my problem. No vag faults.

Found this hose has been rubbing on the actuator for the turbo and has a nice split and hole in it underneath but not sure of the replacement part. I'm guessing it's a vacuum pipe of some sort, but accelerating on the way home ends up with the boost hose to the intercooler blowing off. Not good slow mow FR.

If the pictures reflect the original position that the pipe runs, then it's been rubbing on your ASV actuator, not turbo. If the pipe runs to the turbo (further to the rear) then I would guess that's your problem.

But it is a vacuum pipe with 3mm I.D

Ok thanks it's the ASV then in the pic, the egr valve is just above it in the third pic foreground, pic taken with all pipes in situ.

The hose with the hole runs behind this anti shudder valve and disappears into the engine bay originating from the bulkhead area as 3 pipes one to the egr, of the other 2 - one of these has rubbed away.

Easy way to test if it's the problem, wrap it with insulation tape to seal the hole and restart the car.

No need to replace the whole pipe, just need to get a straight plastic connector, cut the pipe and join it back up.

Let us know if it works?

Again thanks.

I will speak to some maintenance guys at work see if they can remedy this way - good idea, I was looking at replacing the whole pipe just didn't know what it was.

If the car works fine again problem solved

Hi the cable is patched up for now. Boosted okay to 1.5 bar was stopping at 0.4 bar(could be better for a remap but see below) and runs okay so yes - no more boost pipes popping off.

Waiting for my mate to com back off his holidays to get the car up on a ramp. The boost pipe connections don't seem super tight to the intercooler - probably where they kept popping off. We will remove the pipe and if okay refit - or another new pipe and clips but I have some mikalor clips which I'm going to fit as well. Will get all the vacuum/boost pipes checked properly - for leaks and wear.

Still a bit sluggish for about 2 minutes on first drive from cold but if I get the time I'm getting the egr and inlet manifold off and cleaned - never done in 120k miles. Maybe the turbo actuator is sticking a bit so I'm switching to premium diesel for a bit and maybe trying revive or forte if no improvement.

poor old girl is getting on in mileage so expect some issues now but apart from this issue and a new clutch she's been okay

That's good then!

The original pipes are held together with a poor design of clips and lugs. Overtime movement causes them to wear away and eventual pop off. You can zip tie them together and they will hold.

Wouldn't bother switching over to premium diesel though, just clean out the EGR valve, inlet manifold and check all pipe connections for boost leaks.

Maybe try the Terraclean treatment - a few people seem to have seen benefits from it?

Seems a more concentrated cleaning process than the usual fuel additives.

Might be more beneficial for a higher-mileage engine if its never been cleaned out. I think there's a thread on here somewhere. Been thinking of trying it on my FR TDI.
