Hi just bought my second pd130 sport and it's a lot better than my first but the mpg seems very low! On the same journey I used to achieve 45mpg in my old car I'm now getting low 30s.

Today I cleaned the egr valve, changed the fuel filter, air filter and added a shot of millers ecomax and still getting poor mpg. I scanned it and had two engine fault codes

18061
18057

I googled these but they both seem minor

The only thing I thought was the engine sounds deeper than my last one almost like the boost pipe was disconnected but they all seem fine and doesn't smoke at all

i know it sounds silly but is your oil overfilled? i extracted say 400ml of oil as it was too high and the difference in mpg was outstanding about 10mpg. these dipsticks on the tdi's can be confusing

I did check the oil briefly and thought it looked quite high but I'll check again tomorrow

Thanks

I don't think it has it feels a lot slower than my last pd130 that was mapped, I cajt decide if it's lacking power or that's just how they come!

They should be pretty quick as standard. I would check for;

Boost leaks
Binding brakes
MAF Sensor (unplug and run the car to see if this resolves the issue)

Then run some logs of the boost in VCDS.

I had a poor MPG issue for a few weeks and it turned out to be an intermittent connection to the MAP sensor. Check out my RR for pictures \/

Thanks for the suggestions, so far I've cleaned out the egr and inlet, new air filter and fuel filter, used some millers Eco max , and still low mpg! Even when I neutral down hill the computer says I'm getting 160 instead of ---.

It feels nippy but about the same as my mates 1.6 100bhp leon!

I'll try unplugging the maf next, will it improve even with it disconnected if it's the sensor at fault?

Should do.

The ECU by default has two smoke limiters (these regulate fueling in accordance to the amount of air being consumed) One receives its information from the MAF sensor, the other, from the MAP sensor. The ECU only uses one at a time, mainly the MAF.

When the ECU get's nothing from the MAF, it switches to the MAP sensor in order for it to let the ECU know how much air the engine has to play with and regulates the fueling to match accordingly.

This may not be the answer but will give you a better understanding.

VCDS can also tell you whether the MAF is working correctly by running logs.

how do you run logs with Vagcom.
I had the symptoms of sticking veins, and now a week later after i removed the egr completely the symptoms have gone and the car feels loads better.
I have the registered version of VCDS light but not really had a look at it yet.

I tried disconnecting the maf and it seemed either the same or slightly worse, when I turn the engine off there is a vacuum noise too and the engine sounds quite deep, could this be a boost leakf?

Checked tyre pressures all ok, the pipe that goes to the intercooler was leaking and I managed to bodge that back on for the time being and also think there's another leak because the car doesn't sound right almost like a blowing exhaust but it's not if that makes sense!?

It's booked in at midland vw on Tuesday so I'll see what they have to say!

Bit of an update. I took it to a vw specialist today and after doing a boost test found the seals had gone in the bottom turbo pipe, my egr was knackered and the timing was slightly off (belt only changed 12k ago).

I'm having the belt and pipe done tomorrow so will see if it gets better
