Popping and smoking

Hello, posting to see if anybody can shed a bit of light on what happened with my car today.

Brought a seat Leon mk2 2.0tdi yesterday, it’s an 07 and done 125k. Drove it home and it was absolutely sweet, drove smooth no issues, no lights on the dash nothing.
Today I’ve drove it approx 50 miles also drove fine until a sudden popping sound at about 60mph down a dual carriageway, luckily it happened as I approached an exit so I took the exit. Turned the car off, popped the bonnet open to see if I could see anything obvious and I couldn’t. Turned the car back on and it was blowing puffs of white/blue smoke and would only rev to 2 and a half rpm. I was about 5 miles from home so I thought I’d be able to get it back home and have a better look at it. Literally drove 2 seconds and the car was revving on its own with clouds upon clouds of the same white/blue smoke. I turned the ignition off hoping it would cut the car out which it didn’t, I had some tools in the boot so very quickly disconnected the battery which also didn’t cut the car out, it was still running and still revving. This continued for approx 5 minutes in which time I took the water cap off to relieve some pressure and it popped off, the car eventually cut out.

I’ve brought it home on a truck, had a look underneath and under the engine cover and can’t see anything split or any hoses that have blown off. I’m thinking it’s going to be a blown turbo? Anybody had any similar issues?
Thanks in advance, any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like diesel runaway

Possibly turbo seals gone , get it to a garage for a closer look

It did seem like the diesel had runaway because the car wouldn’t start after it had cut off. I have managed to get it started now with some easy start. It’s working off the key now but still blowing clouds of smoke, I imagine it needs burning off? Theres no oil on the dip stick it went through all the exhaust and left a puddle on the floor. Idles ok but won’t Rev over 2k now. I haven’t disconnected the exhaust yet but yes I do think the turbo seals have gone as well, it’s turning over fine. Thanks for responding

You are saying you bought a used car and didn't get it evaluated before the sale or at least serviced after the sale?

Also, when you encounter a big failure like you did, you immediately pull over and get road assistance to truck it to a repair shop. Don't try to drive a smoking car, you probably did a lot more damage.

If your buying a used sports car ALWAYS look into that cars history and ALWAYS have the money ready to get the car serviced straight away. I made that mistake of buying mine off a numpty and he had never had an oil filter change for over 5 years which lead to oil clogging the oil filter which led to the oil going all through the engine, exhaust and f**ked the turbo which lead to me spending over 2K sorting the issue.

Safe to say I learnt my lesson! 😂🤦‍♀️

Hello mate yes mot check was done and everything seemed in order. Also mot was done the day I picked the car up and passed with no advisories. Safe to say I got lucky and haven't had any other major problems with the car since the turbo.
