Hey Guys, it's a 2013 Ibiza. Occasionally have to loosen clutch for car to pop into first gear. Only happens when I'm taking off from a dead stop, like a red light. Mates say it's normal. Should I get it looked at? Cheers

Hello there and welcome to the Forum.

Normal operation is depressing the clutch pedal to floor, with clutch now disengaged you ideally should be able to obtain all forward gears, if you mean you have to lift your foot up slightly to allow clutch pedal to raise a bit, so you can then engage first gear, no this isn't normal.
Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're saying ?
Normally if you have to mess around like that to get first gear, it can be a sign that your first gear syncro is wearing.

Thanks, yes you definitely understood what I was saying, was hoping it was just a spring, new fluid or re-doing the links (unlikely as its only 1st gear) best case scenario. But it might be something pricier such as a new synchro as you were saying. Was also thinking it could be a new selector. Car is still under warranty and will be in for diagnostics, so will be interesting to see what comes up. Read on other threads that this was a problem with other vw gear boxes.
