If my car is written off, I want to buy it back and sell it on as salvage

its a 2004 54 plate leon fr tdi with 90k on the clock, full SEAT history.

Needs 2 n/s doors and 'B' post fixing to sort it

what would this be worth, or what kind of price can I expect it to sell for as it is?

It will depend on what cat it was written off on. I am sure that with pillar damage it will be a Cat C which will dramatically reduce the price. Pricing in this case is difficult. I suppose we would sell for around £1500 as salvage but we are a registered salvage company.

In terms to repairing yourself the selling price depends on the job and finish of the paintwork. New pillars and doors etc, etc can be a pain to align correctly.

The market is also slow at the minute so you can only see what you can get for it.

Good luck with whichever route you take

What sort of price do you rekon insurance company will offer it to me for?
Repair quote for £3800, rekon it will be cat D

When I looked, I've never seen a leon fr for £1500 @ salvage yard

I may just buy, fix it and keep it myself

if its your pride and joy, but it back and repair it and you may have some money left over in your pocket. What you got to remember you are not going to make any money probably when you sell it on

Only had this Leon for 2 weeks before someone hit it, was thinking about buying it back and trying to sell it as it is on ebay or something (and make a bit more cash). If t doesnt sell, I'll fix it and keep it, or pass it on to a relative.

The insurance company have said they have had a look on autotrader and my car fetches between £6-6.5k - not many FR TDI's on there. They will be inspecting the car today, and will let me know if it will be written off or they will be paying me out for the repairs.

I think I will be at getting something different this time, maybe a 320 diesel coupe

Out of interest just let us know what they want for you to buy it back. It may be around £1000 or so but depends on the insurance company but many are bridging the gap between straight price and repair cost so it could be up to as much as £1800 or so.

Don't forget a Cat C car is worth some bit less than straight or even Cat D.

Hold out for a higher price from th einsurance if yuo decide not to keep it

as i stated in the other thread, i would be surprised if they do kill it for that damage, but if they do- they may/may not let you keep it,

say they offer you 6k for the car, they will want atleast £1000 to buy it back, so its eating away at any money you would make.

tbh, that looks like two doors, rear quarter and maybe getting a new pillar welded in if thats possible, i aint a clue lol, but damage looks repairable to me

nope thats b2playas

he has another thread going, which i commented on.

i have a bodyshop, and said to him that his quote of £3800 to fix it was highly over priced-to which he said he wanted to write it off, then he'd buy it back and sell it to make more money! which i think is a mickey take as its not written off and any insurance engineer worth the gold would not kill that.

id just like to see the out come

Ah no I got it lol

It is a crazy price but that will be what the insurance company has quoted for Seat aprts and their time.

If you can get two doors and the b-post from a salvage yard for £400 and under which is feasable, it may be worth repairing.

We would have done for that price but just sent our last two Leon's to be crushed.

Repair will be time consuming due to unpicking both old and new and welding.

It will be repairable but you know what the insuranc companies are like

I fixed a cat C leon, front and rear suspension was bent in, front bumper damage, also had paint damage down the one side.

Needed new front and rear hub, stub axles, front wishbone, two new alloys, some filler and some paint. Overall, to fix it cost me £400. Some parts were new, some were from a breakers, and I fitted and sprayed myself. Removed, fillered, smoothed and sprayed the bumper to as good as new.

It's a great feeling once you get it back on the road!

Sorry for late reply been real busy

Insurance came out and inspected vehicle, bodyshop system for calculating labour time included fitting A post and windscreen pillar (which it doesnt need). Once adjusted, price came down to £3k plus vat for repair. As car is worth £6500, its not a write-off.

They have offered me the £3k cash in lieu. I will be selling the car most likely as it is and then claiming for diminution.

Should have car back next week, and then it will be up for sale, I reckon someone with the time and expertise could fix it very cheap. If it doesnt sell, I may just do that.

Anyone got any ideas on what it will be worth, it wont be categorised or will remain UNRECORDED.

I want to get the funds together for a e46 330d sport
