I mess about with plates and sold one a couple of weeks ago.

Your original plate will go back into the pool at DVLA. In theory someone could buy it on line if they really wanted too. Reality is that they do not unless it is something worth having.

You have bought R20 WOL and the certificate will come to you. If you bought it from the DVLA it will be on a V750 form (cert of entitlement). It can sit on that form for up to a year before you need to do anything about it i.e. allocate it to your current vehicle or pay £25 for a further year extension. If you miss your deadline then you've lost the right to that plate.

If you have bought it privately then it will be on a V778 form (retention cert). This is effectively the same document as the DVLA one but it will have the expiry date when the current holder put it on retention.

I assume that you want to put R20 WOL on your vehicle so you will need to fill out the V750 or V778 form and submit it with £25 for the transfer charge. You will also need to send the current V5 (signed) due to the changes together with the current MOT cert as the details will need to be changed to R20 WOL. If you have renewed your road tax in the last couple of weeks then this has to go too. Send everything to your local DVLA office (look on the DVLA site).

In the post you will then get a new MOT, road tax disc and V5 with your new number. The old tax disc needs to be destroyed.

PN56 NMZ will go back to DVLA electronically. However when the plates change again (say you want to keep R20 WOL) it will be highly likely that you will get your old number back. So keep your old plates to hand.

Thanks alot for the reply, just a quick question I don't understand things easy lol it says on my v750 I need to pay to retain my plate £105 1 year £130 2 years £155 3 year, is this to keep pn56 nmz so as I now have r20 WOL I need to send v750 v5 mot cert insurance proof v10 cause tax is due in august and v317

I went down to my local dvla office and did it all within an hour. If you go on the dvla website (sorry I don't have link, but you can search for it) it will give you all the info you need about what to take with you and where the nearest one is.
