problems with Xenons

I have the bi-xenons on my new Bocanegra and they really are worth the premium.. Only problem is they have misted up already and it kind of ruins the black front with a white mist. Have yours misted up? Do I need to get some new ones through warranty?

Shouldn't really be happening on a £650 optional extra IMO!

Shouldn't happen but always seems to, got the same problem on my mk4 Ibiza now. They should replace them under warranty usually, but u may still get the same problem. Think its to do with a poor seal somewhere + the weather conditions we've got at the moment. Maybe a little tinkering around with the seal where you'd replace the bulbs would sort it but I'd just get it booked in with service n let them fix the problem.

I had a similar thing on my last golf, I don't think it's a real problem unless you have water getting in, i.e. a proper trickle of water.

Most of the time it's just condensation. But still it's under warranty so worth getting it checked out, I got mine checked - they just poured water over the lights to see if there was any ingress.

How you finding it????

Hi Mardon , mine do the same matey must admit like you wasn't expecting this to happen to. Have had this on other seats in the past but mine does clear quick so im living with it i sure its just the cold damp weather at the mo even my mates new a5 does it If i were you i would see how it goes thats all im doing. Still what do you think of the new machine now you finaly got it?

do they replace Mk4 headlights if it's out of warranty?

Mines like 2 months out of manufacturers warranty now so would they do it

They should do, SoGA says stuff should last a reasonable amount of time, headlights fogging up after 14months isn't really reasonable on a car that you'd expect to last 6years at least

Says in the manual it normally mists up.... But I think it's alot of BS

most headlamps will get misted up at some point especially so in colder/wetter weather even when jetwashed but it's become a recent modern complaint as newer cars have clear plastic lenses now

dont forget the latest HID technology filaments operate at a hell of a lot cooler temperature than halogen ever does so will take ages to warm up a lamp to demist, old days you could flip lights on high beam to warm ya hands up.

been a complaint on mk3's and Leons for the last 10yrs or so and dont foget on the old beer goggle lens cars you never saw it through the glass unless it was flooded

if it's proper swilling about with a lake/pond i'd be worried enough to get it looked at though

for real bad examples there used to be a gauze/foam mod for the breather you could fit on mk4's beeza's and was adapted to later modesl anyway so i would imagine it's standard now but might be worth a thought if it becomes excessive

My dealer told me this is a standard thing on all cars with clear lenses now. Condensation will occur but should clear up as the light heats up. Obviously like the other guys say, if you have a pool forming inside the light get it to the dealer to sort as there would be a problem then. Condensation TBH will not bother me unless it builds up too much. You should notice the difference once the weather changes and gets warmer too. I have had this on numerous cars in the past with clear lights, it happens unfortunately, even with clear tail lights.

Light units arent sealed so are open to a bit of misting sadly.

SEAT do warranty misted lights but there is test criteria and it has to be pre authorised by SEAT themselves.

I found decent sized packets of silica gel placed in the bottom of the lamp work wonders.

Techie, you can put some pictures on to show where they are placed? Do they work wonders? Personally I am not too bothered about the misting up as long as it doesn't get rediculous. Will be better when the season changes too guys.

Once this cold weather goes ,the misting should disappear.I think the Silica Gel seems to be a good idea and like you M2 Cupra when I see where Techie suggests its put, I will look out for some and put into position. Any ideas where you can purchase those little sachets of Silica Gel .

very cheap off ebay, i had some from powertool boxes in the headlights of my old arosa and they did work.

It's because your washing your cars to much. Warm water on cold surface creates condensation. if you want a quick fix , use a hairdryer on them not to close because they are plastic, this sorts it , until it happens again. Happy dazzzzzzzzzz..........
