Well, after 2 1/2 months wait (and a courtesy car from the local dealer for the last 3 weeks in which I've done 7k miles in!) i picked up my new FR on Thursday night. It's now Sunday night and I've done 500 miles already. Bloody work!

My first impressions of the car...

Leon FR TDi
18" rims
bluetooth kit
convenience kit
winter kit
arm rest (a god send!)
ipod kit
boot liner
rear shelf boot tray
autogylm

Well first things first, and I see a lot on here the general impression of the "stealers" but... I've gotta say all in all the dealer I used (Pentraeth in North Wales) have been bloody good. Yes the car took a while to come, but in the meantime they have given me two cars to keep me going after i sold mine, and I'm doing so many business miles I was very surprised. I was happy to give them my business from my past leon's servicing and especially cos if this!

The looks. Well all I need to say is it's stunning. I had the autoglym done from the dealer and I've gotta say they did a damn good job. And i got the aftercar kit for free.

The interior of the car is great with all the gadgets you can want or need. Yes it may be a bit plasticy but would you pay an extra few grand for a golf which has only slightly better interior? I think the Leon's interior looks better anyway.

The ride is firm, but I think it adds to the character of the car and makes you realise this is a faster higher spec car. It corners brilliantly and I love it. So comfy to drive long distances.

Two things i wanted opinions on (after my waffle above...)

I'm obviously taking it easy for a while and running the car in even though apparently it's not needed on modern day cars. What has everyone else done? I'm planning on 4k miles (about 5 weeks) of no more than 3.5k revs. Then slowly build it up.

The second is the MPG. I had an altea freetrack 4 on loan before this and the absolute best i got was 37 mpg. Now in the Leon, I'm getting 42mpg of a tight engine! I'm happy already. But I was wondering if people see an improvement as the car gets run in? If so how much? As long as i get 500 miles off a tank (which i did in my old Leon SE Tdi) i couldn't care really, but the more the better!

Anyway, waffle over! Bloody happy!

Cheers, Matt

Personally i would drive it hard from day 1, It would appear MPG is anything from 35 to 44 from what i've seen on here!! (some say more ;) )

Me i get about 37mpg but i like to accelerate and i only do short journeys, and yes the mpg will improve with mileage!!

The book says up to 621 miles no hard acceleration, low rpm (98 mph max). Then between 621 and 932 miles gradually increase rpm and speed to max permissible.

I wouldn't be too soft on it, it could get asthmatic!

Don't launch it off the lights, but build it up in gear. Need to work it through the range.

Great motors aren't they :D

Had my 56 plate fr 3 months. On an 18 mile commute, mixture urban and A road (what i would consider a combined cycle) get a regular 36 mpg. On a very restrained motorway run best I've got is around 42 mpg - am envious of those getting 46+!

i did a trip the other day 150 miles each way, got about 47mpg one the way there and same if not a little less on way back. The car was full with people and that was doing 80 with cruise all the way so not bad i dont think.

I wouldnt worry too much about running in, especially with the DPF... i drove mine fairly hard from the start just taking care that the engine warmed up really (it was december) but wont be so much of an issue for you. 42mpg is not too bad, you might get up to mid 40's maybe even late 40's but no better than that regularly!

Just noticed you have ALL the toys.... If you are doing as many miles as it sounds you are, you might want to think about changing the speakers as the stock ones are pants!!! Apart from that you seem to have everything you could possibly need! Enjoy!

I though the Leon FR TDI was a great car and after the first few tanks the MPG went upto about 48mpg,

Fingers crossed you dont get the DPF issues I had, that resulted in myself rejecting the car....

Good luck with it mate and happy driving.......

I've 2k on the clock now and averaging about 48mpg on my daily 44 mile motorway commute. If you drive it like your granny you can get 60mpg. The trouble with that is you'll end up with the DPF light on and that's the last thing you want.

I had major DPF problems last week not I add due to graany driving and Pentraeth sorted it and I was very happy with the service I got from them.

Enjoy a great car .

I new nothing about DPF issues before i bought a mk 2 FR TDI,the car is superb and i only do 3 miles per day (work and back) and a few miles at the weekend i have had no DPF issues so far and have had the car a month. So fingers crossed
