Driving home today and my tyre pressure warning light appears. Turns out i have a screw in my front tyre! [:@] (Atleast it done its job!!)

Its close to the edge, about 10mm in, on a 225 tyre. So i doubt most places would repair it.

Although i have heard of vulcanising being mentioned, but i just cant find any information on it anywhere!! It seems people only talk of it, and no one has had it done.

If anyone can help out or give links or info etc, would be great.

Im in the Glasgow area!

Goodyear Assymetric F1, bout 4mm tread left, so not looking to buy a new one just yet :(

I changed them all over tonight and threw it in the boot, so no photos yet. Got the space saver on for now.

I had it done when I got a screw on the edge.
It was fine. Cost less than a normal repair.

Where abouts are you?

We've discussed this before.
If a large patch is vulcanised on, you can repair it on the corner.
Tyre companies say you can't, this is because they don't have the equipment, and they'd rather sell you a new tyre.

My plan was that when these tyres needed replacing, id just go get new wheels.
Although this puncture has just come a bit premature, and cannot afford to go get other alloys just now.

Also, i would need the repair to pass an MOT as i have one the end of the month!

Might have to be two budget tyres to run about on for a few months. :(

It was in Manchester I had mine done.
It you do a search for 'tyre vulcanising repair' on Google and Yell.com you should find something.

Don't mean to hijack the OP's question, but following on from his query about professional vulcanising repairs, does anyone repair tyres themselves on their cars or is that a strict no-no? I've not owned a car for a few years and can't remember the last time I had a puncture in one, but would always in the past have just bought a new tyre if I had a flat.

The only reason I'm asking is because I repair my motorbike tyres myself and they've always been fine. I've done 20-ish repairs on top speed rated bike tyres (up to 186mph) on a 2006 GSXR 1000 (so not exactly a lightweight bike either) and never had problems even after riding several thousand miles on the repairs. Of course on a bike you haven't got a spare wheel, so it's wise to carry a repair kit anyway.

There are probably different considerations on a car tyre I guess as the construction and forces on them are considerably different. The manufacturers view is always the same though, they are reluctant to do repairs and would always recommend that you buy new.

I've found there are usually very mixed views on repairing tyres as they are the only part in direct contact with the road, so pretty damn important on all vehicles. Some people don't like to take the risk, some are fine with it.

Anyone got any views?

And to the OP, there's a couple of links for tyre repairs near Glasgow here:
http://www.upmystreet.com/findmynearest/motoring/tyre-repairs-and-retreading-listings-in-glasgow.html

Or this mobile repair service:

Not sure if that's any help or not.

Most people seem to believewhat the likes of Kwit-Fit tell them, that you can't repair a tyre if it's however near the edge. They don't have the equipment or experience so they seem to think it can't be done.

Got it fixed a week ago, forgot to say on here. It was where most people wouldnt repair, although i got it done by my dad's mate who runs his own tyre shop, so he did his best job for us.

If it wasnt for the fact i was changing alloys when the tyres are worn out, then i would have opted for a new tyre. Just got to keep my eye on it.

Heres the whole it left:

Looked at my other tyre today at lunch, and seen a big chunk of metal sticking out it! [:@]
Took it to the garage, and they checked it and pulled it out, turns out it was the end of a nail, and only about 8mm long meaning it hadnt gone right through!

Thank god for that, i was raging when i seen it! Although it was in the centre of the tyre, so i was confident it could be repaired!
