This is something that I'd really love to do, especially after driving my car this weekend and having to fight the steering wheel right up through 3rd gear & nearly getting embarrased by a more powerful but heavier car that could get its power down better. I've researched both Quaife & Wavetrac and I have decided on the Wavetrac even though it is £100 more expensive. The reason for this is that if one wheel breaks contact/nearly all contact with the tarmac, the Wavetrac will transmit most of the car's power to the wheel with the most traction where as the Quaife cannot do this and as soon as one wheel loses traction it is unable to transmit power to either of the wheels. The Peloquin diff also works in the same way as the Quaife.

quaife will torque bias to the other wheel jamjay - thats how it works.
it does'nt have pre-load however, which wavetrack has.

Ah ok, I can't remember where I read that but looks wrong. In your opinion which is best?

quaife vs peloquin - functionally identical

peloquin and wavetrack are from USA, so factor currency exchange rates and carriage, duty and vat vs quaife is uk.

Regal Autosport here in the UK can supply a Wavetrac for £875, Quaife direct charge £700 for theirs. Ive read up on the preload in the Wavetrac, does seem like the better option but is it £175 worth? Personally I would think so, based on their info here and Willy sure loves his.

http://www.wavetrac.net/technical.htm

This is what threw me, the way I read is was that if one wheel loses all traction then no drive will be sent to the wheel still on the ground. Is that true or marketing? Or maybe they are referring to a traditional open diff?

Torque biasing differentials offer increased bias ratios over open differentials. For example, if a diff has a bias ratio of 2.5:1, then it can apply drive torque to the wheel with the most traction (gripping wheel) at 2.5 times the traction limit of the wheel with the least traction (slipping wheel). This is a significant improvement over an open diff… most of the time.

The problem is that when one tire has LITTLE or NO grip (zero axle-load), the other wheel gets ZERO DRIVE, because (basic math here): 2.5 x 0 = 0.

Lift a wheel (or substantially unload a wheel) and you get zero axle-load on that side - that means that during the time the wheel is unloaded, the typical diff will NOT power the wheel that’s still on the ground. No matter how high the bias ratio, you get no power to the ground.

Ive just had a quick read up on the wavetrack and it does seem to top the quaife a little bit but as im happy with the power ive got now im not sure if the extra £175 could go on something else like polybushes to improve handling even more. has anybody fitted either diffs? If so can you notice much difference in the ability to put the power down?

speak to willie about the wavetrac

i had a quaife ATB fitted to my LCR and i must say............. its probably the best money i spent on the car.

doesn't make much of a difference in a straight line (apart from the fact you can leave a number 11) but its whilst cornering you feel the difference,

i'd never driven a car with an LSD before but i can tell you something........... it feels scary, especially when you go into a bend and just plant the foot and it goes round like its on rails.

whether its wavetrac, peliquin or quaife is down one thing, money. i was going to buy the wavetrac but at £175 more i couldn't justify spending that much extra when your already spending a good chunk of wedge. i got mine fitted along with a sachs clutch and jabbasport SMF and all in, including labour, it cost me 2k :headhurt:

if funds permit..... DO IT, cause it'll transform the car and put a massive smile on your face :D

How much of the £2k was for the parts if you don't mind me asking? As I'd have a crack at DIY (or ask A&E Automotive to help with the labour).

I have always been keen on quaife due to them being around for ages and never really heard anything bad from them. My old 200sx had a lsd in it and christ you knew when that thing locked! do
the atb's have a hellish lock when they engage? Im debaiting wether to get a garage i know to fit it all so ive got something to go on if it goes wrong or bite the bullet and do it myself

i got the parts for £1400 and that was for all of the items in the list below:

sach engineering clutch
jabbasport SMF
quaife ATB diff
diff fitting kit
clutch slave cylinder
clutch master cylinder

bearing in mind that i got all of that with 10% thats pretty good.

i got 10% off my total bill so it would've been just over the 2.2k mark before my discount

you do feel the diff working but its not exactly harsh i would say.
i sh@t myself when it kicked in the 1st time i drove it as i didn't really know what to expect
then i got used to it as i knew it was gonna happen so it never really bothered me
