Rattle when i go over bumps

hey

i recently bought a mk 4 seat ibiza, driving it today i noticed that when i went over any bumps or dips i get a rattle in the front of the car, it sounds like its either from the dash or the engine area.

any ideas what this could be?

its kinda a loud rattle more then id expect such a thing to make,
but i did clear it out and check and still does the same

Fair enough, just a thought

I guess it would depend what engine / spec your Ibiza is as to what could be rattling under the bonnet, to be honest I wouldnt know that much apart from whats under my Fr's bonnet.

Engine cover come loose maybe?

on my old 1.2 the shiny black palte on the engine cover come loose and it rattled like crazy, jus but some sikaflex under it and problem solved

It could be anti-roll bar bushes. Mine are shot and the car rattles and clunks over every bump. How old is the car? mileage?

its 52 plate, wid 36000 on clock.
it seems to be more wen the back wheels hit bumps thn a noise from the front, but cant b sure on it

Could be your top mounts on your suspension! mine have gone! tight squeek everytime i go over a speed bump!

this is more like a loud bang, when you go over anything, even those small lumps of stuff when you go into speed limits.

Got exactly same issue mate, had colies put on mine, seems to be since theyve been put on. Just had the front bushes done so its not that. When i go over a certain bump its lik a metal sound that is jumping about coming from in front of the dash. checked the engine cover, it ain' that. My dad reckons the wiper motor is loose, nah don't reckon its that, wonder what it is

Yea mate its a right pain, i just had the cambelt done and asked them to find out what the noise was, did they f**k!!! oh well. Gotta live with it i suppose.

I had droplinks replace for a rattling sound. I've also had a sound coming from the back and eventually figured out it was the rear seat not properly secured after being folded forward

There's been some talk on here a while ago about the steering rack hitting something when going over bumps.

had a look this morning when i drove to uni after a suggestion might be something related to the wiper motor or parts, on the passenger side, ther is a knocking if you bang the bonnet above or below the bit where the wiper cables are.
i will try putting something in later, but the noise sounds to be in the dash,. like a plastic on plastic

I guess it's the arb bushes as well. A common fault on the skoda/ibiza/polo. Replacement bar with different bush retainers is required as the original plastic ones crack, drift out of the bushes and can fall out, which leads to the rattling. My skoda had it and my cordy has it (getting it replaced before I buy it)

taken it to a local independant mechanic who i know today, he phoned me and said that the bush had broken and he thinks that what the knocking is, just waiting for the parts and hopefully should be able to see if its fixed by tomorrow night,
means i get a day off uni tho cause i cant drive there tomorrow with no car

nope, had the bush replaced and its still making that sound, its slightly quieter now but still there :-(
