ah good , im not just being a mechanical spaz then haha, any thoughts on using the same brake pads on the new discs/ how they remove?. Also do i need to disconnect the handbrake cable atall?.

Cheers for the help so far guys , much appreciated :)

I didnt remove the handbrake cable when doing mine and id no problems. I would change the pads when your changing the disc. If the pads are unevenly worn then it will wear the disc unevenly. Saves you going back and removing the caliper again to do the pads. Thats just my opinion though

yeah ideally i would change the pads now , but got my mot on Saturday afternoon so getting hold of decent pads in that time is going to be a rush , the rear discs are fairly corroded all over not just the edges so dont want to fail on that so new discs and old pads im thinking will get me a pass then i can order a set of ferrodo DS after and then fit them next week.

Well had another look and think they are indeed 7mm bolts as my allen key set doesn't have one to fit , so tried removing it without taking off the caliper brackets , but unless im being thick and missing something the pads seem stuck fast to the discs? :(

A good knock / prise with a screw driver should remove. Hammer the disk to free them off. I wouldnt bother with ferrodo ds pads in the rear, rear does little braking. I think it would be a waste of money unless its a track car and doing severe braking and generating alot of heat. Shouldve bought pads when you bought the disks. The bolts will be tight so best with an allen key socket, 1/2 drive and a breaker bar or even better air gun

i see no retaining clip or something ive missed then, might nip into vw then and get a set of oem pads for the rears would be sufficient you think?. 1/2 drive is that just a normal ratchet wrench ?, trouble is gaining access to behind there with a breaker bar, should have allowed more time for it being more difficult than i anticipated DIY jobs are certainly a learning curve , might just have to pray it passes its mot with advisory then get them sorted

Rule of thumb, you shouldn't really use second hand pads with new disks, but that's at your discretion, and yes, you would normally disconnect the hand brake cable, as you'll need to wind back the piston in the calipers

Aye 1/2 is the normal kinda size, 3/4 is more heavy duty stuff. I got in fine with a breaker bar and air gun too. Car right up, on your back and in from the rear of the car and plenty access. I jist fitted pads from dingbro, any motor factors would do unless your determined on using oem stuff which I dont really see necessary
