I was just servicing my older daughter's May 2019 SEAT Leon Cupra today, and while cleaning up the brakes, spotted severe corrosion on both rear brake flexis - on the rigid section at the calliper end!
So, that's stopped me replacing the brake fluid for a day or 2 until I've sourced and fitted new rear brake flexis!
I'm guessing that this is just down to a lack of corrosion protection on that short section of rigid steel pipe, not really good enough!

Has it ever been to a cheap car wash? Corrosive wheel cleaners can do a lot of damage around the brakes/dust shields/hubs etc..

Did see my pictures of my rear control arms 🙈 Something is up with these MQB platform cars where the rear suffers way more from corrosion than the front 🤷‍♂️ Also the splash shields were pretty much gone

No its never been near a car wash, always washed weekly by her partner, who is quite a fussy car guy.

If I'm being honest, I might have spotted that this was becoming an issue last year or earlier this year when I replaced the original discs which had ended up getting seriously corroded and pads. The discs that I fitted were Pagid and they are still looking good and the wear on the VW Group pad kit that I fitted at that point are also looking good, this car's rear discs trashed 2 sets of genuine VW Group pads due to the condition that the rear discs quickly ended up in.

What got my attention late last year or early this year was, the protective thick rubber sleeve on that pipe, was splitting open - due to the steel pipe corroding inside it and so expanding.

Edit:- the rear control arms are still looking okay on her car.
