rear brakes advice

I didn't have any wear indicator wiring on my last Ibiza, just clipped the cable off and put the pads in.

i agree, thats good advice that hopefully wont be too expensive. are carriers universal?

No the carriers tend to be specific to the calliper/disc diameter fitted to a car, as well as needing to fit the fixings holes on the car - and the callipers.

Edit:- that was written badly, the part I missed out was the dimensions of the carrier also allows the calliper to straddle/centre on the disc type (diameter and thickness) fitted.

I was slightly surprised to see that the ECP prices for “no wear sensors” was quite a bit cheaper than the “with wear sensors” prices, in the past I’ve found the cheaper ones had wear sensors, which sounds crazy but there you go, so many people bought them and chopped the cable off if not required.

right so i know the disc ill be buying, but not sure if the calliper is stock or has been replaced - there are no receipts for one and cant see in the service book. im seeing my uncle tomorrow so ill see if he knows what i can do to find the size of the carrier bolts! ill bear all of this in mind and i think your advice is right so ill look to get them changed

Demon tweaks offer ebc discs and green stuff pads for the rear...£96 which I think is a decent price for the quality

you think id be better off with those compared with brembo discs/pagid pads? only reason im looking at ecp is price, but id pay more if its going to actually benefit me (without costing more in the long run)

I would personally prefer ebc over pagid.

Ebc pads have a great reputation

i need to look around for carrier bolts now and then i should be ok. do demon tweeks have sales running during any specific times of the year or is it not that kind of website?

You can buy calliper carrier bolts from your local SEAT dealer, I'd think that they will need to order them in for you so that will take 2 days.

I saw EBC on car SOS, and the guy said that you could not use the blue (racing/track) version because they are too good for approval for use on the road and that would mean that cars might run into the back of you - I'm not quite sure about that to be honest!

EBC should be good, but for an Ibiza, I'd stick with Pagid etc they well easily good enough for any/all normal road use.

Edit:- I think that quite a few people use EBC pads because they do not cause so much black dust to end up on the wheels.

Ecp do sell ebc in the performance section, but their discount codes are excluded from use on performance parts.

The last set of EBC pads I had delaminated, and I'm not the only one to have that problem either.

A car will only stop as fast as the tyres allow, the brakes are rarely the limiting factor, if the abs kicks in that’s not the brakes it’s the tyres.

The thought processes behind bigger discs, performance pads etc etc is about better cooling so for fast road or track use this can be important but for day to day driving it’s rarely and issue hence why my van with a load capacity of 3.5 ton doesn’t have massive brakes.

Unless you are planning on track days then day to day oem pads will be adequate.

Interestingly (maybe) I’ve never used EBC since I had 2 sets delaminate on me 20 years ago. They may have improved but I’m not willing to try.
