Any idea how much a respray on a rear bumper would cost? I have an FR TDI.

Basically had a van rear end me at some traffic lights, luckily there was a police car sat at the lights too going the opposite direction and they stopped and took details :).

Bumper has no dents or anything, just a few scuffs in 2 places.

Will the other guy lose his no claims or whatever? I'd feel a bit harsh if he did but then i again i want my car scuff free like it was before!!

If you're getting it done privately he wont lose his no claims....if you go through insurance he will lose his no claims

Full bumper probably £150-£250 depends on the place

As soon as you ask it is logged and you could pay more.

Even if it is all claimed on his, you still can have to pay more as the insurance have statistics that if you have an accident even if it is not your fault you are still higher risk. Hence there being two questions: have you even being involved in accident? have you ever claimed?

Either don't mention a thing to insurance and get him to pay or claim it all off his. What did he say at the time it's something he needs to agree to really.

If someone rear ends you...its almost defunct its there fault. There shouldn't be any situation in that you should hit the rear of someone's car, unless they have faulty brake lights. its 99% there fault and the insurance companies decide that themselves!

My point is whether the fault is 100% or 0% yours if you declare you have had been in an accident it makes your insurance more expensive.

Body work repair is always more expensive than you first think, esp as you car gets older as they have to blend the paint onto other panels to get a match. The rear is not as bad as the side because its one refective surface, if that makes sense.

Approved by insurers doesn't mean good. I had a non fault smash 6 months after passing my test, and becuase I have contacts in the trade, I got a few quotes then got a shop I trust to do the work. The other parties insurance sent me to their 'approved' repairer to check the quote was acceptable, and it was a place that has a reputation for churning out massive volumes of shite insurance repairs and gettign away with it because most people don't notice.

Approved by insurers also often means 'ludicrously expensive' as they can get away with hiking the bill up for insurance cos. The likelihood is most body shops will give you 2 prices. One for you and one if the insurance are paying.

Also: the only time that the smash has affected any insurance quotes has been with companies that were charging way over the odd anyway. with the larger providers its never given me an issue.

not if its someone elses fault no...as your not claiming on your insurance, so no claim on your policy just theres

You still have to tell your insurance company that you have made a claim - even if its on someone else's policy! its a no CLAIM bonus...not a no BLAME bonus.
However, most insurance companies will take into consideration whether or not it was your fault. In this case, it sounds like it wasnt your fault so it wouldnt have affected your no claims bonus (depending on your insurance company).

Also, they drove into you..you deserve to have your bumper repaired to the state it was in before he scuffed it (dont feel bad, you didnt ask him to crash into you?). If he is going to put up a fight or try and pay for the cheaper option, go through his insurance company - will probably be sorted within a week.
