Hi members and non members,

Rear window made a loud grinding noise today and would'nt go up.

Took the door card off and window motor (which was fine) then discovered lots of wire was wrapped around the motor spindel.

Looks like a dealer job to replace.

Just wondering if anyone has had this replaced and what sort of cost and time it takes to repair.

Cheers

Kev

had this happen to my front passenger window, cost me 15 quid for a new cable off of a chap on here, and bout 2 hours of my time to fix it, and im no genius at this sort of stuff....

Cheers for that Matt.

Took all bolts out of back door but there seems to be holding the plate on near the door release cable.

any ideas.

I aint good at repairing cars mate- see myself having to go to the dealers really.

cheers

had a similar problem with my front passenger side window back in may. Heard a loud crack whilst putting it up and then grinding.

Took it to the dealer after taking the panel off and thinking **** that. Turns out that the mechanism which the cable goes though has a plastic arm on it which had snapped. Newer models and replacements are made out of metal. Anyway they don't just sell the arm bit that broke so a whole new mechanism had to be installed. £135 all in.

Hopefully yours is just the cable and you can do a bit of diy.

Cheers Uncovered,

Just been to Dealers mate and its the Window Regulator - Cost is same £ 135 fitted.

Oh well its gotta be done - gotto order part in first which is a bummer.

cheers

is usually a new window regulator when that happens. i wouldnt bother trying to fix that myself, all the wire and lining everything up is a pain,

Hi cheers for that mate.

It was as you say the window regulator and part was £117.50 (Shocked) and even more shocked to find another £82.50 for fitting, but hey its a safety issue so it has to be done.

cheers

Just had my rear nearside go.

My lad was just starting to lower it, it made a clunk then wouldnt move.

You could still hear motor moving when you drive up n down.

Took it to dealer a mo ago, its still under warranty so no problem. They have ordered a new 'lifter' in case that has broken -- so I'll wait for that to arrive before they'll start delving deeper.

They also said if you assisted the downward movement it does go down - and pushes itself up again after. So maybe the lifter has become disengaged.
