Thanks for your advice kazand. As I'm sure it would work, knowing me I'd end up messing something up and not have any connection coming through! So unless I find a miracle led bulb with suitable resistance already applied somehow then il have to just stick to standard bulbs. Just a shame because the led reg lights really set it off! Especially with a black car! But thanks for your help

Thanks dw911. I recieved the Festoon ones with 6 LEDs and they errored aswell!

Now excuse me for being the most uneducated person in forum history but which resistor should I buy? And where do you solder the resistor? Do you solder it across the entire bulb from one pin to the other. Or just solder it to one end of the bulb? Literally only had my school experience to go from! While ago now..

Thanks in advance

Assuming your 6 led festoon bulb draws around 1.8watts, you would need a 5 watt, 56 ohm resistor
It doesn't mater which way round you fit a resistor, and you will need one resistor for each number plate light
Yes, as you said you can solder the resistor across the bulb from one pin to the other, or across the incoming +and - pins on the number plate light fitting.
As long as the resistor is bridging the positive and negative together it doesn't mater how or where you fix it on the circuit.
Although the resistor will get warm, so just bare that in mind when deciding were to fit the resistor.
That said, the factory incandescent bulbs get really hot in use anyway, so putting a warm resistor in the light fitting is no real issue

Hope that helps

renthal led number plate bulbs

After buying and indeed wasting money on bulbs that were guranteed to work with my 2011 Leon FR I am pleased to say that I have finally found the solution.
These work 100% with no errors or bulb fail lights lit and look great as well.
I also have the led "tick" style lights as standard and 16 smd led sidelights fitted.

LED Number License Plate Light Lamp Unit fit SEAT EXEO - Cool WHITE
These are listed on EBAY by hq_auto_lighting_uk

I can't post the url as i haven't made enough posts as yet but copy and paste the description above into ebay and you'll get there.

I know they are a bit pricey at £19.95 for number plate lights(postage is free) but I have easily spent almost as much on dud bulbs that simply dont work.
Although listed for the Exeo these are a direct fit for the 2011 Leon. They come with all connections and inline plug and play canbus resistors and are literally a five minute fit.
Other sellers are also charging considerably more for what appears to be the exact same units.

I'm not sure if anyone else has already posted this solution,if so please accept my apologies. Excuse the renthal in the title....previous copy and paste still in there lol

Good man! Thanks for the input. Price really isn't my issue as I, and yourself, have spent well over that buying bulbs at £4/£5 that just don't work.

I am not entirely familiar with taking the entire fitting out but sure I can manage. Once it is taken out is it simple to swap the connections over? I imagine there are a couple of wires involved? If they work I'm willing to try it! And mine is a 2011 Leon FR too.

No worries....They're a straight fit and come with stock connectors, just take it easy taking them apart.
If you look ay the pic of the lamps there is a lug which is depressed and the lamps hinge down and out.
Its really easy. Looking at the rear of the car the lugs are on the right side of the lamp. The canbus resistors are seperate but have plugs fitted as well so the whole lot just goes back into the lamp recess.
Each lamp has 18 led's and they are perfect.

At last a solution that works !!!!

18 LEDs is loads! Are they like spotlights on the road? Haha. Thanks for that. Will invest in some and see how I get on. Got 21 days to return so that's good.
I've actually had the full lot out before by accident in my previous Leon. Thought it was really loose so pulled it and it clipped in rock solid. So should be okay. Thanks for the help! If it works this thread should be made sticky so others get an easy answer

Halfords do these bulbs at £14.99, saw them yesterday. And I can only assume that as they won't be your usual cheap and nasty copycat bulbs, they should work.....well actually they are halfords lol.
But at least if they don't work you shouldn't have any trouble taking them back to the store so worth a try

Right. Fitted the lights as suggested. Had the fittings dangling outside the car and clipped the lights in to see if they worked before fitting them properly. Error light :(. Everything I tried didn't work. So decided I would fit them in regardless and email the company to see if they could suggest anything. Fitted the plastic in and pushed the resistor in and NO ERROR LIGHT! God knows what fitting it did but no error light as of yet. Sounds a bit hit and miss to me so will keep this thread updated if it errors. Fingers crossed and thanks for your help!
