Rear Parking Sensors

Just to bring this up to date in case anyone is still looking at doing this, Maplin have their top reversing sensor kit reduced from £40 to £20 at the moment.

I bought one yesterday and will try and fit it this weekend to my Toledo V5, I'll let you know how I get on!

Ok, a little update. It turns out I'm not a patient man so couldn't wait for the weekend and fitted my sensors last night.

A little note for those of you with MkII Toledos thinking of doing this: if you're not patient (as I've just pointed out I'm not) DON'T DO IT! ;)

I'm very happy with mine and it took me about 4 hours but without a Haynes manual (they don't do one for the Toledo) and working in the road outside my house, it was a very frustrating few hours!

I have fitted the control box just behind the grill in the trim around the rear light cluster, the wiring then runs up and out of there to the boot lid (where the awkward reversing lights are housed) and draws its power from the reverse wiring there (black and blue wire in case anyone else wants to do it). This was all fairly easy to do, just took a while to find the right wiring and to get all necessary trim off.

The display and beeper unit is mounted on the dashboard to the right of the dials etc just above the air outlet with the cabling behing hidden behind trim and carpet all the way through the car to the control unit (very easy to do as I've had the trim out previously for carpet damness issues).

Now we come to the sensors and the realisation that on a Toledo you have to take the rear bumper 90% of the way off before you have any chance of wiring it!
This involves undoing about 20 star-head screws (some of which are behind the wheel so a sod to get to) and then gently easing it away from the bottom until you can get your hand up inside it to grab wires and feed them through the drain plug hole in the boot.

As I say, now that it's all done it's very subtle, the wiring's all really well hidden and the whole system seems to work really really well but there were a fair few swear words spoken last night and my hands are truly shredded this morning!

Has anyone got any pictures of the unit in the dashboard area as would like to see what it looks like fitted whether that be the Maplin unit or seat supplied unit? :)

Just to add my findings to the pot.... I have just been quoted £350 from my Seat dealer to have the Seat sensors fitted and painted.
Looks like I'm heading for Maplins at some point soon !

Have just bought a Maplins kit and plucking up courage to fit it.

3 Questions

Any chance of a rear pic of your car showing the sensors
Is that the cable coming in from the left of the display unit
Did you need to drill the centre console for cable

I don't know if I will be as brave as you looking down into console whilst reversing!!
Thanks in advance

i will post a pic off the rear asap, cable comes in from left,no holes required to be drilled, the warning is audible as well visible,so you don't need to look at it :)

You can drill holes in bumper and feed cables through with a stiff wire etc through the airvent in the spare wheel well without taking the bumper off

BMB......Where did you locate and pick up power supply from inside the vehicle, i.e. where did you find and joint into the grey/white reversing lamp cable?
The loom seems very taught, with numerous cables, behind the rear left trim.
Or did you somehow "fiddle it down" from the grommet near the nearside tailgate hinge?
TIA

Undo the passenger side trim inside the boot, wiring plug sits on top off wheel arch. Connect into the top side of the grey/white wire.

Thanks that was quick.
I did not fully remove the trim on my recce yesterday, just the top half folded back and the plastic over rear seatbelt mechanism, will have to delve deeper!!
Although mine is TFSI FR, but hopefully same.

the wire is found on the passenger side under the plastic trim near the door seal or can get the wirte from left of glove box on the floor pan to the left a bit. its the grey and black wire for reversing dfeed, and its blue and black wirte for rear fog lights. seat decided for some reason to swap the colours for the wires between the boot and the front so dont cut into the blue/black wire it is for the fog light.you cant est it with multimeter.

now for my problem :

I thought I'd write up the installation of parking sensors on the new Leon for those that are contemplating it. All in all it took around 4 hours, although once I know what I'm doing it should take about half that !

ok well similar thing ive mounted a parking camera and screen in my leon mk2 1P. it owrked ok for a few days i also found out the hard way about the blue black grey/black wires, the wire u think it would be is actually for the rear fog light it baffled me for ages untill i thought i would test all the lights untill i get a reading.anyway now when i revers the relay unit buzzes away like its on fire ie it keeps swithing very fast and i dont know why.the rear light wont come on atall now even once ive reset the dashboard fault light. so i have no reverse light atall with or without the unit hooked up. the strange thing is the reversing camera will work with the car turned off and into reverse but when the engine running it will make a buzzing sound on the relay and wont operate the camera or screen properly.

does anyone have any idea as my waranty ran out 2day and its just come out the garage and they wont look at it bewcause i have modifed it.lol

PLEASE HELP i do know alot about electronics but just dont know what the hell is wrong with this as it was working fine for a few days. the relay is fine i tested it and used another to double check.the screen is ok as it works ok when the engine is not running and the same with the camera. but no reverse light atall, bulb is ok even tried clearing the DTC's (fault codes cleared) but as soon as i put it in reverse the fault light comes up again
