Recommend me a good machine polisher!

Just after your recommendations on a decent machine polisher for around the price of £100-£130.

I usually polish by hand, as iv never had any surface scratches / swirls - however I washed the other half's car earlier - the paintwork is full of swirls.

Gave the bonnet 30minutes of Meguiars #83 (by hand) - its only taken out the lightest of swirls - so time for something a little more upto doing the job.

Have had a look at the Dodo Juice spin doctors, are they any good?

Many thanks!

Have you used a machine polisher of any type before?

The reason i ask is that if you havent, i couldnt recommend a rotary machine because they are harder to handle and can inflict huge amounts of damage if not used with care and experience. A DA by comparison is relatively safe.

Kestral DAS-6, good starter poilisher. As n d fox says, dont just pick up a rotery and have a go without reading up and practise, as a little slip up could result in a respray.

I have the DAS-6 and have done a bout 5 cars with it, its really good and there are some brilliant packages out there. Id advise a trip to Detailing World forum, some brilliant guides and tips on what you may need.

Thanks for the advice guys - I read the thread that jamie8954 started a while ago.

I have never used anything electrical to polish before - I have achieved good results in the past by hand - but as mentioned, I need something a little better to tackle the swirls/light scratches.

Seems I would be after a dual action polisher then - are these effective at taking out swirls & very light scratches?

Thanks!

Rotary will remove in seconds.

Dual Action will remove in minutes, with the right pad and some effort.

For a first time user and for all but the worst problems ( which requre the most amount of skill to fix) the DA is fine and more than good enough.

That the sort of thing you're after doing? It took 10 minutes to fix :)

Cheers mate - Not going to be tackling anything as bad as that to be honest!
At least I know its do-able then.

Will more than likely go for the Kestral DAS-6 then!

Silverline rotary on cleanyourcar.co.uk is dirt cheap and does the job!

Which is what i am using now but only after using a Megs G220 DA for a few years first. As i mentioned above, a rotary has the ability to inflict huge amounts of damage if not used correctly.

A DA will achieve the same results but will take longer. To be honest, the only reason i moved to the Silverline was because of the time taken to machine polish a car.

As above, have a look in the guides section on DW. DaveKG has compiled a lot of very in depth but excellent guides. Its where i started with my DA

I am using Dodo Juice Rotary and I definately would not recommend using one till you got ample of experience.

Nige and Unclefester somed it up nicely tbh.

Thanks for the advice guys!

Definitely staying away from a rotary then.

Just as long as I can remove swirls and light scratches then im happy for the time being - and sounds like a DA will do this just fine.

Will probably go for the DAS-6 or the DodoJuice buffdaddy.

Plan of attack will be to;

1 - Clay the car,
2 - Megs #83
3 - Megs #80
4 - Megs #205
5 - DodoJuice wax.

Too many stages for your first time mate.

try just with megs 80 first, very light cut and see how you go.

Thanks again for your recommendations,

I have just ordered a package which consists of the following;

Kestrel DAS-6
1 x Meguiars #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish
1 x Meguiars #80 Speed Glaze
1 x Meguiars v2 - 7.0 " Cutting Pad
1 x Meguiars v2 - 7.0 " Polishing Pad
1 x Meguiars v2 - 7.0 " Finishing Pad
1 x 5" Backing plate, wrench, side and D-Handle, Canvas carry case

along with a bottle of Meguiars #205 Ultra finishing polish.

The lot was less than £170, so quite happy with that. - Got a few cars lined up so should hopefully be impressive.

Looks like a pretty good package...

the Megs #80 has a similar cutting ability to SRP, DoDo LP or a really fine cut Menzerna polish. #83 is a glaze which can be applied in multiple layers after polishing to add gloss and depth.

#205 is the dedicated compound from the 3 products you have ordered, its not massively abbrasive so maybe consider something additional with a medium to high cut ability. #105 would fit into the line up you have. If you have the means, look at adding at least another 1 of each pad type too.
