Hi There,

I have a 2003 1.4l Seat Ibiza and have noticed that when turning the ignition to the 'on' position a red oil light and immobilizer symbol illuminate in the centre square panel on the dash. These both light up for a few seconds and go out when the engine turns over.

Looking at the manual this appears to be normal for the immobilizer symbol however it's a bit vague regards the oil light, it does say that it will illuminate briefly but doesn't say what colour it should be (mine is red).

To be clear the light only illuminates for a few seconds in red and then goes out when the engine starts, it doesn't come on at all when driving (I have found lots of posts re the light coming on with an audiable warning but this has never happened to me).

Oil levels are all fine and the car drives fine too.

Only noticed this when looking through the manual to find out what oil to buy - I like to have some spare just in case and now have opened a can of worms and worrying about driving the car tomorrow!

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks:)

Thanks for the reply, another friend who had an Ibiza a few years back recalled that his did the same and it was normal like the manual says when the ignition goes on but he couldn't remember what colour it lit up and the manual doesn't tell you what colour the symbol should be....thinking it's best to get it checked out like you say. More money Grrr!!

Zomg!

Soundly like the oil pump is on it's way out or possibly the wafflesprocket

Either or tbh

No its not my first car, I'm just not really clued up on them! My old car the oil light used to come on and then went off after the engine had been turned on. This is the first car I've had when the light goes out before the engine even turns over.

The light has always come on but I've never really noticed the colour before as I've not paid much attention as it doesn't stay on for more than 2-3 seconds and if anything was wrong with the car I presumed it would? It's only reading the manual and it being ridiculously vague that has gotten my attention now

Lets just blame the manual not being clear hence me asking the question ;-) haha Best to check though eh!

Thanks guys!

Totally normal. You'll get engine oil, EPC, EML and ABS lights on when you turn the key.

When the engine had started they should all go out. If you don't then you have a problem!

Agreed , it's normal and mines red. Just checks everything then goes out. Now if it stays on that's different !!
