It's a good shout but i want to replace all 4, ive got some on order from ECP. 4 bosch for £108. If ones out i reckon the others are on their way too.

Good call, my car dropped one recently. Warning there are more to go
, I recon.
Before I map the car ill have to take plenty of pain relief, suck it up and do my other 3!

If you change the others to be on the safe side keep them in the boot incase one goes down at any point, atleast then you can pull over and replace them to get you home.

All coil packs changed, car has been running fine.

Slight fluctuation on idle roughly 300rpm's but cars fine, pretty sure it's done it ever since I owned it, engine doesn't vibrate or anything.

I couldn't tell which coil pack had failed, visually they all looked identical and my car and had not driven for several days.

.

It shouldn't fluctuate by anywhere near 300rpm. It should be more like 50rpm when healthy. Have you checked for a PCV leak? Once warm, my idle speed is stable between 740 and 780

Perhaps 300rpm is a slight exaggeration, i'll post a video on sunday. I havent had a chance to check anything yet.

So here's a video of my idle, it isn't rough and I can't notice any loss in power. It's like the AC is going on and off. I also uploaded a video of my boost gauge needle which is also moving, I have never noticed this before so possibly
Vacuum related ?

It doesn't look too bad mate, but yeah i would say you have a small vac leak.... Idle should ideally be steadier than that and vac should read in the high 20's, your's is below 20.

Thanks for the reply.

it's really odd and annoying because when I'm driving around come to a stop at lights or whatever take it out of gear put the handbrake on it's absolutely fine completely normal... it also idles fine from cold no movement apart from reducing as it warms. The vac has always say at about 22 and will also do this again when stopping during a drive however once home and idling it will be doing as appears in video.

I have same ish problem ATM and for me is to do with coil packs. Tried three over two days. Two blew "was old ish so expected" and the third is good....on the two before they blew was messing with idle, reving 1 or 200 rpm for a few seconds then settles then back to reving after another few seconds, changed pack for good one and idle has settled back to normal.
My vac sits at 19 all day long and doesn't move till the peddle does. Before pcv delete was more unsteady and more like 23

Hmm so I would take the pipe off going down to the pcv from the hockey puck, plug the hockey puck hole after removing the I think 19mm pipe from it and test. Very iffy way of testing it and I wouldn't drive it just let it idle. This takes the pcv part out of the equation and is only feeding the engine from the intake. Basic way of fault finding it helped me doing this to pin point the issue.

went for a little spin, idling fine. But another problem appeared. Floored it
In third, seems to just get to about 4K then dumps boost like crazy, no surging just dump boost dump boost making the DV noise just constantly until I come off and go back on , it is an intermittent thing. So now I'm thinking the clutch is slipping maybe . Should it dump if clutch is slipping? Thought maybe the DV, changed that to a 710P a few weeks ago. I knew I might get the odd
Hiccup with the map but not all of them one at a time.

Stock dv is good enough for the rs6. Our 1.8t will be fine at stage 2 but just remember they don't last forever but are cheap ish to replace. Fit and forget is what I like the most about them.
No the revs will rise with little to no speed increase with a slipping clutch.
Good test for this is put it in 5th at 30/40mph and floor it...revs will rise quickly with little momentum speed wise. Dumping boost I don't think it will do unless the clutch is really really warn. Do you have any codes come up?

So little update, took car out clutch is fine. Appeared to be boosting and holding Okay. Although I did find a split pipe (see pictures). Can this effect boost I believe it is it the crankhouse breather hose although I may be wrong I've read posts saying that it doesn't, however i rang amd and he told me that it all can effect boosting. Also see video of normal idle as I was saying in above post.
