remap with big mileage?? opinions please

going back to basics
Right first of all i'd just like to say I hate you lot!!
I bought my 1.8t Leon thinking i was buying a decently fast, fairly economical, family orientated car to take me into my 30's, through family life and grow out of modifying...



...then I joined SCN!

now,HIDs, a 007p, coldside kit, green twister air filter and a catback exhaust system later, I now want a remap, the only trouble is, at the moment, the cars' on 142k, by the time the house is redecorated top to bottom, numerous family engagements and xmas with 2 kids has been and gone the car will be on around 150k, the car has FSH with mainly Seat servicing (upto 132k) although no receipts for a new/recon/rebuilt turbo (no smoking at all, even on full throttle to the red line) but i'm sure it will have had 1 of the 3 by now, would anyone recommend remapping a car with such high mileage? and would you suggest a TIP or anything else to go with it?

any info is most welcome:thumbup:



oh and BTW, i don't hate you really, but I have got wedged firmly back in the modding game :D

i dont se it bein a problem, mines on 110k and WILL be getting mine done, when iv got £300 spare. i keep saving ther cash then somat ffrickin fcuks up round house , lol.
only thing im ever so slightly concerned is if clutch can cope, purely cuz iv no reciept for a new un

I'm in sort of the same boat as you.
My cars just turned 100,000 miles and about to be a track car. This is running the standard map just now but will get mapped soon.
Wat you will have to be prepared for is the OEM original bits might start to fail.
I have the original MAF and coilpacks so will have cash set aside for these to be changed.
I have uprated most of the other bits so don't have to worry about these.
For you, if you still have the OEM engine mounts, Dog Bone Mount and the other bits above I would have a good £300 sitting about to sort these if they go wrong

As Willie said OEM bits will possibly start to fail but in my eyes you have to expect that when remapping a car as you are asking for more from it and its all part of the parcel. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying you get a remap and things will fail just have it in the back of your mind thats all.

As for a TIP yea I wold deff recommend it even if you don't get a remap as they have a track record for collapsing under boost especially if you have had a remap as it's boosting higher.
As for which to go for I love Forge stuff but find they some stuff is a bit overpriced so I would recommend a THS one (I have one of these myself albeit for an LCR & you save yourself £40) but then could be worth having a word in the Forge section on here as they may be able to do you a deal.

My view is that if there is a weak item in the chain of delivering power to the wheels, then the remap might expose it sooner rather than later for something that would fail eventually anyway. For me, I'd put a £500 buffer to one side (easier said than done with kids!) or at least have a card with room for £500 just in case, and go for it. These are well engineered cars that can take the extra grunt and the mileage. Things like coilpacks and the MAF still do the same job as before, all the electrical bits and sensors still do the same job, but mechanicals are under greater pressure - head gasket, clutch, turbo, pipework, transmission etc.

If you used Revo or a switchable map, if your clutch started to slip at least you could very easily move back to the standard map whilst you get the cash together for the new clutch. I had to do that at one point with mine which bought me the 2 months time to get the cash.

Go for it just had mine done with 112k,no problems what so ever.

my clutch seems to have no problems what so ever, its got a map on it at mo but its running rich and producing 157bhp but p-torque are hopeing to make it run more lean with hardly any power loss :)

Am i right in saying that link doesnt cover my 180 as i cannot see the AUQ engine code? :confused:
