Hi
Just picked up my Cupra R a couple of days ago and am absolutely loving it
It is an 04 plate with full seat service history and most importantly for me it is completely standard (quite rare these days it seems). I have been looking to get my hands on one for about 6 months and have found this forum to be a fantastic source of information, it was really this forum and the fantastic guides in the FAQ section which helped me take the plunge and buy one of these awesome cars. Promised myself that if i ever had anything worthwhile to post up that i would as hopefully it will help someone else, so here goes...
When i picked up the car it had a fault with the remote fob, the unlock button didn't work but the lock button worked fine. Push unlock, nothing. Push lock, car locks. Guy who had it before me was just opening the car with the key in the drivers door, which meant a rush to get keys into ignition to stop the alarm going off. Rang Seat who told me key was broken and needed replacing and recoding at approx £100 plus VAT. Once i got it home i had another go with the key and realised the little red LED light wasn't flashing when pushing either lock or unlock. So i took the key apart and checked the battery, gave it a quick wipe and also wiped the small metal contacts that press against it. Put key back together and voila, remote fob now works pefectly! Didn't even need recoding. Popped to Halfords the next day and got a new battery to be safe, it is code CR2032 and it cost the ridiculous price of £3.29.
Sounds obvious i know, but i have read other posts where people have had a similar issue and have gone straight to Seat to get a brand new key! I hope this post might save someone £100, if you are enjoying owning a Cupra r as much as me you will need it for optimax
