I also had one of those

Bear in mind this golf was groundbreaking in 05 by one of the biggest derv tuners at the time

It was running a gt20 turbo so bigger stock turbo than a gt17 and it was hybridised! Variable vane is now old hat but back then it was one of a kind

The owner obviously wanted the noise for whatever reason and if thats the way it was done at derv doctor i dont see the issue, never leaked boost and always dumped on que, and with a dyno graph of 267bhp it worked as intended

The bills i got with the car were 4k at awesome gti (early gt17 hybrid) them 8k at dervdoctor with the gt20 hybrid

Im guessing you've not seen what allards were doing back then? Was rare but not ground braking imo.
Out of interest what was the torque? As the bhp isn't so important

Yes allard was also big too a few years ago

All i can think of is jason from briskoda with the fabia vrs. I think it made around the same figure 260bhp, but wasn't as early as 05 iirc

Whatever the weather it was impressive then and still isnt too far of the pace, and they knew what the were doing without a shadow

Break as much ground as you like, no diesel needs to dump boost when closing the throttle because they don't have throttle valves, the full inlet charge always goes into the cylinder.

Some diesel drivers might want the sound of a dump valve. For those, the Forge thing will deliver it. It will affect the engine's performance in a bad way. I don't know if anyone has kept one on long enough to tell if it will damage the engine, but it is a distinct possibility.

It's a cosmetic accessory. Hook it up to a cylinder of compressed air, at least that way you'll still have the boost you need.
 
I'd have to guess, having lost the links I had ages ago to the tech discussion.

The fart valve is a boost leak, but intermittent. The ECU will try to reduce fuelling then increase it again. You will see overfuelling followed by a power spike when the valve closes.

More carbon build-up in the turbo, from the overfuelling. Turbo overspeeding when the valve opens - not a good idea, and the extra wear on the turbo bearing may be enough to make a weak turbo fail. Power spike may induce clutch or DMF failure (but I think that is really unlikely, unless you have a remap)
 
hi thanks for reply muttley, sadly i DO have it remapped,

ive decided now to take it to a garage and let them take it off instead and ask them to check everything over just in case theres a underlying problem or any damage,

then i think it may be best if i get my car booked in to do a vagcom/diagnostics and check everything is running how it should



is there any thing i should ask the garage to check over when they remove it? although im sure they should know anyway what to check

Perhaps give them the PDF I linked. Chances are they never seen on before. So they can reverse it maybe.

hi john il print it out for them.

im gona ask them about the turbo having possible carbon build up and also to check the egr valve and inlet manifold too and make sure they aint clogged up.

any more advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
