Ok so I'm pretty hands on with my car and I took the engine out of my.ibiza that I scraped but how hard.would it be to get back in
Few things I'd like to do

1 fit hybrid turbo
2 fit g60 flywheel and vr6 clutch
3 fit new rods and any thing else I should replace at the same time as updated rods

To be complitely honest I don't have a clue what I'm doing when it comes to the insides of an engine any good guides or tips

to change the rods the head needs to come off which means taking the cambelt off so yes you would have to time it up again. not too difficult to do as its got markings which just need lining up on the crank and cams. also to do the rods, the sump needs to come off, then undo the big end caps and the piston/rod will push out the top

I found i couldn't buy a haynes manual for my leon so i bought a MK4 Golf one that covered the 1.8T.
Really worth the money and will save you loads in the long run, even if you have built engines before.
Buy it and maybe a electronic Seat ELSAWIN - one note though the Haynes is designed for a DIY guide for people who need guidance but the ELSAWIN one is designed for Garage mechanics who already know basics etc.
Haynes for me tho :D

Thanks for the info guys think I might go ahead with this now
So when it comes to timing were do I start also any one know of a list of parts i need to rebuild the engine

If you've never done it before you really need something like a haynes or if you got any mates who know what there doing just for guidance etc just make sure you get the correct torque settings for everything ;) or it could all end in tears.

Once the heads off you will have a marking on the cams that matchs on printed on the inside of head once there lined up the egging is at TDC (top dead centre) then you can take the belt off and when it goes back together you put it all in lining up with the marks etc but it's been so long since I took an engine apart I can't remember all the steps :( think there's the same marks for the crank do you know it's in the right place when the cams go back in

Does that make sence?

All i can think of gaskets and new piston rings your putting new rods in so guessing your getting new big ends? Id replace the bolts myself just to be safe and get new oil pick up etc, oh and get new cam belt water pump etc while it's all off ;)

INA do a whole kit for the rods, 20mm rods, ARP 2000 bolts, new bearings, OE head bolts.

I am kind of in the same boat, going to be building mine over the winter, never done one before but doing lots of research.

I just bought these to get my head round it all before I start it.
