Removing rusty star nuts

I have these large star type nuts in a good few places on my 20VT.

Is there a way to remove them without damage?

What is the part number for them and if they are rubbish, what do people replace them with?

As for removing just bend up the 3 tabs and unscrew with long nose pliers

They're expensive...
I just replaced 10 of mine last month as i was fitting a new downpipe, got mine from VW at 50p each...

I pulled the ba***rd things off and replaced with plastic washer and a bolt

50p each from vw.

You can use a nut and washer, the little post it goes on is a threaded screw. I guess theyre cheaper/quicker to use in a factory.

I found I could flatten the tangs and push them back on with a 11mm socket. I didn't have a correct size nut for a proper fit so the one I damaged I used a nyloc which is 90% ok.
