Had a quick search but nothing i really wanted came up.

Basically just looking for a guide on how to remove the front seats on my car, got new ones to put in.

Any help appreciated

Cheers

hey,

either side of the runners are black plactic covers, there are torx screws in one end under plastic caps, t25 iirc, undo these then slide them towards the front of the car to unhook then pull up,

next slide the seat all teh way back to reveal two 12 or 13mm nuts at the front centre, undo these, now gently side the seat off the runner to tilt back, use a light to see the air bag wiring harness underneath, you need to unclip that, ideally you need the battery disconnected just in case, then after you may get an air bag light which can be turned off with vag com

hth

^^ what he said, just done it in mine, piece of cake!

just to add , i work with vagcom and till this day i dont know of a way to turn off the airbag light electronically unless i shut off the whole system. best bet is a dummy plug with a resistor

Does this mean i will have the airbag light on the dash then? I dont have vagcom or know anyone with so i will probably be stuck with it on.

although the light will be on with the airbags still work on impact?

what seats are going in?

if they use the same plugs, take the battery off, leave for half hour, to discharge the system then install the seats,

the air bag light may come on, but its jsut to tell you they have been unplugged

Its the Cupra R seats, sourced a pair of front seats that were out a car with only 35,000 miles, looked brand new and good price so couldnt pass up. Need to find rear seats now. My old seat had worn through to the foam.

I changed them on saturday, no problems no airbag light so im happy :)

Did you disconnect the battery for 30 minutes as above?

I want to remove my front seats to fully clean under them, I think there's half a dog under there!

I disconnected the battery but not for long, i unscrewed all the chairs then disconnected the battery, unplugged them and took them out. Put the new ones in and plugged them in then connected the battery. I then checked for any lights on the dash before tightening up the new seats.

my airbag light came on just after messing with clocks without disconnecting battery and now a half hour disconnect doesnt get rid of it,

Mates, I'm planning on taking off my driver's seat and changing the upholstery. I was wondering if I would be able to drive the car if I mount my passenger's seat on the driver's side. Should I connect the Airbag plug or leave it unplugged? I presume the airbag light will come on and probably I'll need to clear some errors with VagCom once I'm done with the upholstery change and reinstall both seats. Is there something else I should worry about?
It would be great if you can share your experience :).

Haven’t done anything like this myself but a few things come to mind:

The seatbelt clip would be the wrong side and I’m not sure you’d be able to swap it over.

The adjusters would be next to the centre console and you may have to remove that to make room.

If you get as far as fitting the seat personally I wouldn’t plug in the airbag. It wouldn’t be of much use in a side impact since it would fire towards the empty passenger side, plus you’d still have a warning light on from the missing seat on the passenger side.

If I need to repair my driver’s seat, I would either keep the car off the road during the time or try and find/borrow a cheap temporary replacement.

You're right. I haven't thought about the seatbelt clip being on the wrong side. I guess I'll keep the car off the road.
