I'm not goint to even bother answering that.

Well me being a complete electrical/mechanical novice, I am guessing he is talking carp?

Or simply you have more experience than him :D I have searched on the forum and it does say people have had idle problems so I'll just fit the part and see what happens. I did get faults for it so it must need doing anyway.

have you cleaned your throttle body? I`d do the cheap stuff first.

I'll give it a try thanks

OK, now I'm very confused.

You know I bought a new MAF sensor, which didn't help. The car would struggle then cut out immediately. Well I've replaced it with the old MAF and the car idles fine until you rev it, then the revs drop alot and it tries to cut out. If I use the throttle I can stablise the revs to idle position.

Found this site guys, new coolant sensor for £7.89 ex. vat instead of the extortionate price of £28 from dealership!

That's the correct one yeah?

I'd be suspicious that's not a cheap forged copy at that price. Didn't you buy one when you went to the VW dealers, knowing you had the fault code saying Coolant temp sensor signal too high?

The thing is, for the sake of saving a few quid, you are no further forward. If you order the above sensor, when are you going to get it???

This should be a proper process of elimination. You've got a new maf, so let's see a vag-com log to see how it's running. If the fault is still there, let's see some logs with coolant temp sensor replaced a good MAF and that might help determine the problem. Blindly unpluging this and plugging in that isn't really going to sort this. You have the tools (Vag-Com) use them. :)

Have you tried checking all plugs and joins. I solved a boost problem through just scouring my bay and engine for loose plugs. Give them a wiggle and push them in, I know MAFs are pretty fragile.

Best of luck.

tbh though, VW dealer prices are massively overinflated. £28 for a sensor that they knew would go wrong?? [:@]

I'd say £11.50 delivered is more like a reasonable price.

Right I've bought a genuine new coolant temp sensor, replaced it, and the damn problem is still there! :(

I'm so annoyed

Could a dodgy MAP sensor cause this?? But I don't understand why I got coolant temp sensor signal too high, replaced it and it's still not helped :(

OK, I deleted the fault code, and now it's idling alot better, but for some reason the TCS light came on and if I rev it the car tries to cut out :|

Somebody pleeeeease help me

EDIT: I've disconnected the MAP sensor and it hasn't helped so I presume that is not at fault?

I've driven the car with everything connected and under full throttle it misfires badly. Without the maf plugged in it runs ALOT better, almost normal!?

The TCS light doesn't come on now for some reason. I've tried it several times and no light has come on, still misfires badly

I got it from Audi

The TCS light came on once and not anymore :S

I'm having same kind of problem, garage has told me to get a new maf sensor, is there a website I can buy this from or is it better to go to the dealers?

coil pack would normally bring on the emmissions light rather than the tcs light iirc

I would suggest so; but i am by no means a mechanic so would not commit to an answer! have you tried plugging your old maf back in now that you've replaced the coolant sensor?

Yup I have Danny, still the same.

It's weird because when I first changed the coolant sensor, it idled at 1200 just how it should when cold. I was like yeeeeey problem solved. Then the idle slowly dropped to 800, and when I revved it it tried to cut out.

Now when I turn the engine it just goes to 800 straight away and tries to cut out :( I'm so annoyed it's unreal. There are no fault codes on vag com so now I'm hunting in the dark

With the maf unplugged it runs pretty good and idles fine, and vag com says 'mass air flow signal too low' just as it should

so even when started from fresh first thing in the morning, it idles at 800rpm straight away? sounds like the autochoke isn't kicking in properly; not sure what that means though! have you checked all the fuses etc just for the sake of it? there are a couple of management fuses in the fuse box?

Even when the engine is warm the cause misfires like mad and tries to cut out when driving mate so I doubt it's the choke.

Not checked any fuses

I just can't understand it. I'm thinking I may have bought a faulty maf. I'm hoping someone with experience can tell me, that if unplugging the maf fixes the problem, it can ONLY be the MAF? Or is it linked to other possible areas?

When I first fitted the coolant temp sensor, it idled at 1200 rpm as I said, then when it dropped down to 800rpm the TCS light came on (but it hasn't come on since)

Have you checked the throttle body? It will idle ok but will stick when you rev and engine dies. Please check it isnt gunked up. It will need resetting after.

What air filter are you running? Any chance of filter oil on maf? The maf from audi... was it the correct part number ?

I think you have a bad maf and a gunky TB.

disconnecting the maf make the ecu revert to safe known settings. this will affect the fueling and you will run rich. maf is the first sensor so id guess in your case its at fault.
