Hi all,
My Altea 2.0 tdi 07 reg is the 1st modern diesel i've had. I'm thinking of replacing the stock air filter with a drop in replacement job.
My question to you guys is "Will it improve the performance at all?"
I know not to expect massive gains but was wondering if these K&N filters and the like give the engine a bit more zip.

I've done this on previous petrol engines but never on an oiler. I have to say from 1800 to 3000 rpm she's really responsive and a pleasure to drive.

Has anyone dropped a free fow filter in to their air box and noticed any improvements?
Any response will be appreciated.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Most independant tests have shown that good standard paper filter will flow just as well as any "high performance" filter for a turbodiesel. Just change it more often, cheap enough at £6 a throw.
Biggest loss will be leaking pipework post turbo, especially with VAG's crap pipe joint design :)

I've found panel filters to have a placebo effect. A good OEM one will do fine, as above

Yeah I'd stick with the paper one, all the k&n / performance filters do is allow more airflow..... On a non turbo engine it's a no brainer put one in and get increased airflow which gives more power, but in a turbo engine (unless the turbo is mahoosive) the turbo sucks the air it needs so a free flow filter isn't going to increase performance.

Thanks guys,
I've gone down the "Genuine standard paper filter route".
Tests on you tube concluded.....no gains to be made with "performance" filters, in fact some actually made less power on the dyno.
