Hi Guys

I am a new member here and recently purchased a mk5 ibiza cupra, this is the first 'fast' car I have got so have been looking at mods, one such mod was replacing the air filter. Atm is is a halfrauds ripspeed £35 job so I can test it out.

This is the first time I have done something like this to a car...so i just wanted to know will removing the airbox cover and just have the new airfilter attached void warranty and is this a perfectly safe practice, does it make the engine hotter at all?...i just love the sound it makes now, a lot more wooosh

If this is recommended I will go ahead and buy a revo or k&n air filter

Please see the pic below and advise and newbie :D

Any modifications you do to a car will VOID WARRANTY or some parts will be VOID WARRANTY. You can take it all off for servicing or warranty work without the dealer knowing......

Open air filter can suck in hot air meaning decrease in power! You would need to get a enclosed induction kit.

hmm ok thanks I have heard views about open air filters decreasing power, but if true I am not too worried as it should only be a little loss in hp ...and like you say I can simply put the old one back on when going for a service..

TBH the main thing I am concerned about, is if an open air filter would have a detrimental affect on the engines reliability or not..im not too sure if this is the case, i like the sound know, but id rather be safe than sorry!!

This is my first car so Im kind of new to this modding business :)
