Replacing MDI with CarPlay USB

Hi, I have retrofitted a MIB2 system and upgraded screen in my 2015 leon. I had someone activate full link etc and android auto worked fine through the MDI port in the glove box, but as i found out when getting an iPhone, that socket does not support CarPlay. I have found the replacement USB to resolve this, but I dont have the center console USB to update. Is there a simple way to remove the MDI port and replace it with the new USB/Aux port?

Im hoping I dont have to add it to the centre console. I cant find any helpful guides to fit this anywhere.

Really appreciate it if anyone can help/advise. I have the new USB connector but as its the older model there was no centre trim usb/aux. Only the media In. I have no idea how I would get this off, or even last resort, add in the wiring to the unit and how to run it through to the centre console. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I’d like to do this too. ☝🏼 I have the same outdated nasty setup as you unfortunately…

I managed to get it all apart, but looks like the green connector going into the current MDI interface doesnt power the new USB, so a new wiring loom is needed. Cant replace the two USB ports either as the MDI one is soldered on to the MDI board. Ordered the new wiring loom, looks like hopefully its simple enough to run behind the centre console, and will use a dremmel to make a hole and set the new USB in there.

If it goes smoothly I will let you know.

Thanks 🙏🏼 I think I’ll stick to my cigarettes lighter USB charger and Bluetooth for now.

Upgraded mine and I just swapped the old usb connector out for the new. It's pretty straight forward, just remove the side panel of the glove box, where the fuses are.
I then just routed a usb cable through the glove box to pop out of the trim underneath, and then glued the end of the cable into my phone holder - 3d printed.
