Hi
I have been looking on other posts but not sure what will fit my vehicle.

I have a 2008 XL with the factory bluetooth phone and red MFD, it has the standard fm/am radio. I would like to add sat nav and DAB (looking at RNS315 which I have in my Tiguan).

If I get a RNS315 from eBay I know I will need a facia , DAB aerial and GPS antenna, but will I need anything else or should this go straight in?

Kieran

I think you should be plug and play with the 2008. I needed to update my canbus on my 2006 to stop battery drain. If you search the forum there are loads of how to's with this. Worst case you might need an aerial adapter.

An OEM shark fin aerial is available with DAB and GPS 6R0035501D, you may need a new aerial amplifier 1K8035552C for DAB. There are cheaper ways to do this though with stick on aerial and small square GPS receiver. MFSW? SW control module?

Yes - have an Android Head unit in my 2008 Altea XL - great with reverse camera, and dashcam.

Mine is the Eonon GA5153F Android 4.4 - but there are newer models with Android 5.1 on.

Yes was a straight swap - all the connections fitted perfectly. Just needed a new bezel as the original was the shape of the space.

I fitted an Xtrons unit to my old 2006 Xtrail, but wasn't too keen on it, the microphone was poor and I had to mess about with wires to get the thing to power up. I wanted to go factory if I could with the Altea. Although the aftermarket units have loads more functions than the factory.
If I can't find a RNS unit I will look at the upper end of the aftermarket.
Want to be able to plug it straight in and have little messing around really as its the wife's car and she doesn't like me tinkering with it!

I bought the pumpkin auto one and it was plug and play. If yours is 2007 onwards you will not get battery drain .

Yep, DAB RNS510 is an option. If you don't mind a bit of a different brand I have a Skoda Columbus (same thing but Skoda branded) for sale.

Hi Viking
What are you looking for for the 510?
Does it have AV in/out for a camera as well on this?
Kieran

The Columbus / RNS510 has the connection port for the OEM reverse camera, same as some of the RNS315 have (but not all of the RNS315 are suitably equipped). So the answer would be Yes as long as you're fitting (or already have) a genuine VAG reversing camera.

For the Columbus I have it's cheapish due to a small mark in the plastic surround. Some pics...
