Revo Remaps

well basically my turbo went after having the car for 2 years(weirdly went just before the warranty was going to run out)

I took the car into ford and they had it a few days and came back to me and confirmed a blown turbo they blamed it on the stress on the turbo due to the remap... I argued and argued with them but i didnt have a case due to services being left too long aswell. So i had to go ahead and pay 1100 to fit the new turbo...

all was going well with the new turbo until i had it for a month and it blew again  I then took it back to ford really angry chucked them my keys and left in a huff...thinking they would obviously fix it because the one they fitted blew..

nah... they then came back to me saying due to particles in the engine from the first turbo blowing that the engine needed to be replaced..i was OK then obviously thinking they would now repair this at no cost due to them fitting the turbo and not flushing the engine....nah....they still wouldn't entertain the fact that it would be done on warranty i battled with them for 2 months and they just wouldnt budge..so in the end i got the car towed back to my house and got an engine and turbo fitted for £1000 by some random bloke on ukfn...

i would never buy a ford again and never remap a car with out warranty being intact...i learnt the hard way in the end..

See this is the type of thing I would be scared of! With my luck with cars i'm sure this sort of thing would happen!

yeah it feels like it is worth it at the start...you get bored..then it goes wrong...then u think..why the hell did i tinker when its perfectly fine how it is.

i think remaps are ok if your not using your car every day but i did 80-90 miles a day and think the turbo just gave up the ghost..

i was so depressed when it was all going on..like worst time of my life so far

That horrible feeling when you were bad as a kid crept in I bet!

Suppose one benefit of the revo software is you can knock the car back to standard for the boring daily commute then whack it upto 99ron mode for the weekend..

You can pay extra for the select or select + switch box. The select plus lets you select, Stanard, 95Ron (probably about 210) and 99ron mode (probably 215/220)bhp

With the select + you can also do logging with VAG some and then use their own software to tweek your map if you add any extra mods.

having gone down the filter/exhaust route myself, all i can say is the 14 second 1/4 mile it did the other day felt very easy and the engine felt like it was holding back on the boost. the only question is if the box can take more power, not if the engine can make more power because we know VW got 280bhp out of it. (source - Autocar) could be that all it needs is a stronger clutch pack? REVO remap release is late, why?

The engine could probably make 280 bhp or even more with standard internals, but even if the DSG could cope with it,what about torque steer?

We are talking almost a Focus RS power without the clever front suspension with Revo-Knuckle and Quaife LSD and the Ford still does torque-steer,electronically limited torque or not!The Cupra torque-steers as it is!

Ok,coilovers would help, lowering and stiffening the suspension, and the brake kit would provide some stopping power, but i think that more than 250 bhp would be too much for it.

Maybe an aluminium double wishbone front suspension, mechanical LSD,wider tracks, very low drive height, very stiff suspension,roll-cage and other mods would make it driveable, but that's fantasy tuning...

The 260 bhp Scirocco R drives well, but it is heavier, wider and lower than the Cupra.

I had 360lbft and a quaiffe diff in my Fabia which is an inferior but similar sized chassis and had no problems driving it, just need to man up and stop being such a girl.

I'm impressed with both the graph and the quoted figures.

The remapped cupra is only making 283Nm of torque which isn't a huge amount over the stated safe limit with other tuners offering a dangerous IMHO 300+Nm

You can also see the the higher torque amount does not kick in until 3200+ (obviously when the turbo is on boost) which sould also be a little better for the clutch.

Power wise the standard car looks to be making similar power to mine (over 190) and is actually putting out 221BHp at 6200rmp and seems to hold it well without tailing off.

Impressing and useful looking power delivery!!

I could be swayed lol :)

Just looking and comparing to my own graph, there is very very little increase in torque, I think i'd have to try before I buy in this case to see what the mid range poke and 15BHP extra actually felt like..

STOCK: 194.97BH & 205.31lb/ft or 278.94Nm torque
REVO 221BHP & 209lb/ft or 284=Nm

On a side note:if the Cupra produces around 190 bhp and the Clio 200 around the same(all hot Clios make less than factory quoted, right),but with a lot less torque, with at least 30 kilos more weight and with the slower shifting of its six-speed manual, why does the Clio matches and probably betters the Cupra in acceleration tests.

Evo said that in road driving the Clio Cup wont see which way the Cupra went,on track the Cupra fares worse, which is normal, but the acceleration times they recorded just didn't look right.

In the tests i've seen the cupra always beats the clio 200 in performance. By some way sometimes.

One I dont get is the 198BHP and 6.5second 0-60 of the new lardy Civic Type R...

You will roll if read the Evo's test!

As always they exaggerated the extent of Cupra's faults, downplayed its advantages, didn't mention all of them, made some false observations, simply ''fixed'' the whole road test!

The track test was ok,Clio won.

Then sprint times-the Clio makes 0-60 in 6.6,the Cupra-in 6.9;0-100,16.7 for the Clio.19 for the Cupra:think:

The Type R takes 7.0 seconds,Honda lies.

What Mark said is correct, your warranty will be void.

However a dealer may offer the remap and take one of two paths.

If something goes wrong and can be attributed to the remap they fix it at their cost and then get onto the tuner to recoup the costs. Or they can submit a fraudelent claim to SEAT, not tell them and hope to god they dont check.

how can SEAT check if say the driveshafts gone or a rod has bent itself?

It may have been a brand new cupra with very few miles. The difference between mine and new is night and day!

The test I read said the clio was in the 8's in the wet and the cupra high 6's.. i'll try and find it.

I would also like to see the graphs of the first dyno revo did on that car before the remap to see if they got the same reading as yours Mardon. If that is the case then I agree, I can't justify getting the remap done for such small gains.
