RNS 510 Battery Drain - CAN Gateway Update

With reference to Navigation System (RNS510) Retrofitting I have installed this system in my Seat Leon FR. However, I now have the battery drain issue the link describes.

My CAN Gateway has Software Part Number 1K0 907 530 H and the Software Version is 0150. Therefore it should be updatable to 1K0-907-530-K @ 0178.

I took the car to my local dealer, told them I needed the CAN Gateway updating and stated TPI’s 2017949, 2018155, 2022606. However, they said they could not find those TPI’s.

I have e-mailed Ross-Tech's Technical Support Dept. and they said that the TPI's mentioned in their WIKI are specifically VW TPI's, therefore won't show up on any of Seats systems. However, the dealer I took the car to are combined VW, Audi and Skoda Dealers too.

Without the TPI's, Seat are reluctant to do the job as they don't know what they need to do. But Ross-Tech said it is fairly easy for Seat to apply the update, have them insert the last flash cd they got from Seat (for example Flash CD v33) and enter "self diagnostics" in their VAS, after that they should see "update programming" show up for the gateway.

Does anyone have (or know where I can get) any of the above TPI’s?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
I can't help you, but this is the 1st Leon I've heard to have the battery drain issue! What year is your car - 2005 (55)?

If you can't find a dealer to update the CAN BUS, you'll have to install a newer version..... the job isn't that difficult & pick up a K or never from ebay for £30ish
 
Mines a 56 plate mate. The local dealer had a go anyway but couldn't get anywhere with it, so I've ordered one off the bay instead. From what I've heard it sounds like I'll have fun swapping the CAN Gateway.

I'm not sure mate I've been back and forth Newport a lot lately to see Capitol Seat. IIRC you came down my end when I first had the car and read the fault codes for me :)

I urge you to look under the footwell, don't do what I did, and think it was in the same place as where others had said! (under the wiper scuttle panel).

It is an absolute b**** of a job.

New Gateway = No battery drain :)

SeanyK it was under the wiper panel as per the tut.. how you managed to change your's under the footwell I will never know! But thanks for the heads up anyway.

I am having the same issue. On my rcd310 I get the message battery low. How much is the can and where abouts is it? Does the battery only die if you leave the car parked up for longer than 48 hours. Mine is a 57 plate FR
 
There are a couple of workarounds available without needing a gateway update.
Firstly, there's a firmware flash for the RNS510 that cures the problem.
Then, there's some wiring magic you can do in the fuse box that basically feeds the radio's power off the ECU's power supply, so as soon as you switch off the ignition the radio shuts off...
 
Lol! Thanks, mate. The one that comes standard in the Golf Mk6 here is without navigation or bluetooth in the MFD display.

If I install the RNS510, would I be able to view the navigation from the MFD (or w.e it's called) screen? Would it require simple VCDS coding or does it need an extra harness or something? And what about steering wheel controls and the SEAT startup logo? I've heard that most of them come with VW start-up screen.

Would be interested to find out about the wiring magic. I have an rcd310 so not sure about the flash.

Easy enough to find. Just get a multimeter and test each empty slot until you find one that is switched. The unused slots have one terminal in them - you test that terminal.

An even more elegant solution would be to open the fusebox and move the radio's power line to the unused switched slot you just found :)

Sinbad, just had a look and my fuse box is the same as the later one posted in the golf forums. I don't have a multimeter, any other way to find out?

ALso if i do manage to get a multimeter, will their only be 1 live slot. What if more than 1 is live, does it matter which i connect it to?

Digging up an old thread, but i'm getting battery drain on my RCD510. I had the unit in for a week and never noticed any battery drain until the weekend when the car sat unused for 24 hours plus. I'm trying to decide whether to update the can gateway or just go for a pioneer head unit.

On a side note anyone fancy a like new RCD510 Dab model made by Bosch?
