Yes I'm going to do that now, just making a metal plate and will try sticking it a little higher up the dash to begin with

try taking the climate control unit out and try mounting it just under the dash in the middle thats where mine is and gps signal never drops out

Well I've moved it onto the ridge above the unit but below the a/c unit for now and mounted it to some metal. Does it need metal above it too?

I'm ordering a new antenna anyway as they are only about £12


Can I install speed cam locations to my unit too? Does anyone know how to?

You dont want metal above it as will reduce signal strength and you can install speed cameras somehow but they only appear on screen they dont make a noise

Swapped the GPS antenna today, seems I'm picking up more with it. It's still on the ridge below the A/C unit.

As a rule how many satellites does your unit see?

I hover around 7/14

Sounds about right needs at least 3 to track properly
