I've ordered the Pipercross C0187 cone filter as it appears to be the best one for the job and also the one used by Backdraft on all their big turbo kit cars.
My brake pads need replacing all round as does the brake fluid, so I am going for EBC yellowstuff pads all round and ATE Super Gold fluid. Super Gold is the same as Super Blue, just a different colour, so it makes it easy to see when you've flushed it through the system, Super Blue is in there just now but has been for 3 years, so time to change.
Tarox want £162 for a set of front pads ... stuff that ... so I'm going to try the yellowstuff pads as they get a good write up from most people who've tried them. At £75 for the fronts they are less than half the price of the Tarox pads - got to be worth a go!
Although a full race material and capable of high temperature use with very good wear life, this new formulation sets a new trend in race type brake pad compounds. The “bite” from cold is superb which is uncommon with race materials (normally requiring warm-up) and makes this a pad which can be safely used on the highway as well as on the race track. This new formulation was used by numerous championship race and rally drivers in 2004 and is truly a milestone in brake pad material development.
“I fitted a full set, both front and rear to my Subaru Impreza, prior to a trip to the Nurburgring. The pads were bedded in on the way over, approximately 450 miles. During the weekend visit I completed 39 laps, approximately 530 track miles and then another 450 miles back home. Approximate front pad wear was 2 to 2.5mm, still plenty of life left in them. The pads performed excellently on track. On the road, initial cold bite is good. After a couple of applications of the brake pedal the pads are getting to their normal operating temperature and are excellent there after.”
I've got the brake caliper piston rewind tool and the Gunson Eezibleed so I'm good to go.

I'm on my second set of yellow stuff pads. Been very happy with them, and as they say bite from cold is excellent.
Less brake dust than DS2500 but more than Red stuff.

Looking at the compressor map for the GT2860RS turbo, it looks like 1.5 BAR of boost is only just getting it into its efficiency range:
I need to increase the boost to 1.7-1.8 BAR to get it further into range so it's performing at peak efficiency.

ATE Super Gold brake fluid has arrived, so has the Pipercross C0187 filter - it's HUGE! I also relocated the boost controller to a neater, closer place and it has removed about a foot of vacuum hose. Just the Gunson Eezibleed to come and then I can do the brakes.

I have been offered a 2nd-hand GT2860RS turbo which has been upgraded with the HTA GT2868 compressor and WRC metal bearing cage inside, built by Owen Developments. Sounds awesome but is it worth going for? May be able to get my hands on a brand new GT2871R for cheap-ish too.

Pic of the ATE brake fluid, one is tinted blue and one is gold. I *should* have Super Blue in there just now, so I'll flush it through with the Gold.
I say *should* because I don't know if Star actually did change the fluid last time. I know they said they fitted Tarox pads on the rear brakes and I know this isn't true because they are OE ATE pads on the back, and I paid for Tarox pads!

Yes the coilpack wiring is wrapped in gold heat-reflective tape! if you're wondering why the hose from the controller to the wastegate is long and not dead short, it's because both hoses are supposed to be the same length for accurate boost control.

Looks very neat Rob, love the support bracket for the UNO
One thing though, watch the oil feed hose for the turbo where its touching the actuator hose, that braid will munch through in no time (found my oil feed had worn a hole in the firewall heatshield lol). Can you wrap it at all?

Looking very good Rob, funnily enough i ordered the same filter earlier this week, i will do some logs with the Jetex then the pipercross when i get a chance to fit it, to see the difference. How come you have the bonnet support and not the gas strut? Your old GT2X is of for a rebuild soon with CRT inc a bit of work to aid the flow still gives me a silly grin though should be even sillier when the works done.

Craig - I noticed that too so I tweaked the oil hose fitting on the turbo and moved it away from the hose.
Phillc - the carbon bonnet is too light to work with the gas strut, you can't shut the bonnet!
The GT2X is a cracking turbo, I just wish more people had believed me and given it a chance.

Ah yes i forgot you had the carbon bonnet. I know what you mean about the turbo, i love it, after talking to Mark at CRT i am looking forward to getting the work done and the results.
