Hi I am new to the site and looking for some advice as to a rough idling 2002 Ibiza Sport I have. The car has 102k on the clock. I would say the car has been poorly maintained. Having owned it for a month I have replaced alternator belt, timing belts and water pump. I have also replaced spark plugs and HT leads. And to top it off 2 new front tyre's. I still have the EML showing and had it connected to a friends diagnostics. This showed an EGR fault. The fault was cleared and the EML disappeared. On driving home roughly 30miles it came back on. The engine runs rough at idle but drives without a misfire. I have cleaned the throttle body and EGR valve in hope this might be a cheap fix but sadly no. My partner was cleaning the car and discovered a plastic part with a part code. Not being a mechanic I searched the Internet and found out it was a MAP sensor. I guess I need a new EGR valve but is it worth replacing the MAP sensor as well? Are there any pro's or con's in doing this? My only regret is finding the MAP sensor after I had done the timing belt's!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nic yes there is a metal pipe to the rear of the valve it was clean but I did give it a quick blast with the EGR cleaner. Oddly I have just filled the car with fuel and a engine additive and taken it for a 60mile run. Came home switched the car off and on again and it is sitting idling at 900rpm no misfire. I am still going to replace the EGR valve hopefully this weekend. Will get it on diagnostics also and hopefully cure the beast. If not I will post a reply for the best next course of action. Possibly injector problems?

The map error is usually caused by the internal air leak when the egr valve sticks open.
I'd replace the EGR valve, calibrate it and clean and reset the throttle body.

OK so an update on the EGR valve issue. The new EGR valve arrived on Saturday and was immediately fitted. As expected there was no change in the idle misfire. Had it put on diagnostics yesterday and it comes back as EGR valve open intermittent fault. I believe this is an issue with the electrical connection? The EML was reset and came back on within 15miles of driving. I am waiting on my own diagnostics device arriving today so I will see if I get any other faults or codes. In the meantime anyone got any ideas on how best to resolve this? The wiring loom has several other devices wired to it and becomes like a spaghetti junction the further down you go.

check the fuses. If it siezed then it will usually pop the fuse.

OK fuses checked and there are no problems. The car is still misfiring at idle. P0401 returns which from memory is saying the EGR valve is open. It is a brand new valve so my only other thought that it is an electrical signal fault at the connection. Does anyone have any ideas? Other faults on the car are the 2 clamps either side of the flexible hose are loose. Could this be a factor?

It's usually an automated option on the calibrations list or done through vcds.

OK I get EGR system: Insufficient flow P0401 static no.Power train data bus missing message from instrument cluster P1650 only 2 faults found on the engine. Any recommendations? I can only clear the fault but it returns?
