Sachs Clutch Upgrade Cupra

I'm planning to have the APR Stage 1 map installed on my 2016 Cupra 290 but it has a manual clutch. I'm considering on using Awesome GTI as they can do the map and the Sachs clutch for £1525 installed. My local company in Glasgow is more like £1850 for the APR map and clutch but they are using Helix clutches. Anyone any preference between Helix and Sachs?

Also, how many folk have had their clutches replaced for the remap and how many have replaced the flywheel at the same time? I've only done around 14k miles in the car from new and I don't recall ever slipping the clutch excessively under heavy load. I never launch the car either so I'm not expecting the flywheel to be covered in hot spots but I just wondered if most get the flywheel done anyway?

@paddy6789 has a Helix one in preperation for Stage 3. I believe and is very happy with it.

Someone else asked about maps the other day, so found out Progressive Parts/VAG Manchester are doing the Racingline Map and Helix Clutch deal for £1,500. Handy as Racingline map upgrade to stage 2/3 is free after Stage 1.

I got my Helix Organic from Progressive Parts (who are also a forum sponsor) and had it fitted at VAG Manchester. My car was already Racingline Stage 1 and I wasn’t necessarily having clutch problems but I am planning on going stage 3 so wanted something more robust and something that would support the power and torque levels of stage 3. Sachs was thrown around a lot but I heard Helix was possibly the new favourite and new kid on the block. I went with them and it’s been amazing. I had the clutch delay valve removed at the same time and now the car feels transformed. I can’t recommend the clutch or Progressive Parts enough. They have a price match promise on their site too, so even if you find something cheaper (even on awesomegti), they’ll beat their price. A great bunch of guys too that will look after you and your car!

Thanks. So you never replaced the flywheel at the same time? How many miles had you done before replacing? What sort of torque were you running with the standard clutch at stage 1? I've not got any clutch problems either (apart from the annoying delay valve) but everything I've read seems to suggest the standard clutch is not long for this world at stage 1 torque levels.

Stage 1 Racingline is supposed to be 365hp/370PS and 358lbft/485Nm.

I kept the original flywheel too - it was inspected and they said there was no need to change it unless I really wanted to. As I hadn’t had any slipping or issues before hand, I took their advice and kept the original. I’d done about 8k on the stock clutch with stage one, but I was driving like a granny until I got the clutch upgraded. Wanted to ensure I kept everything in good working order. Seemed to pay off :)

OK. Hopefully my flywheel looks alright as well. I'm impressed. You drove like a granny for 8k miles after stage 1? Don't think I could resist. I'll struggle to resist for the 500+miles I assume I need to drive carefully for after the clutch is installed.

I resisted for about 3 months after getting Stage one - it was hard, but I wanted to make sure the stage one calibration agreed with my car, and I didn't want to ruin the clutch - I'd read some posts where people killed their clutch when stock, and had to have a whole lot replaced. I just wanted to make sure everything worked and was in the best condition before the upgrade. But now I'm super giddy with the new clutch. You won't be disappointed with the Helix if you choose to go for it. I'm a Racingline flag bearer I'm afraid so I'll always be biased towards their software and hardware. Progressive Parts / VAG Manchester do have the Helix Clutch and Racingline OEM+ Stage One Calibration, with fitting and VAT at £1,500. They'll even make you a coffee or three! Plus with the Racingline OEM+ software, you pay once, and get all the additional stages free, when you're ready. Or even if you wanted to return to stock, it's free.
