Sat Nav DX or Not?

Hi all
first posting so be gentle....
Am trying to get upgrade disk for Sat Nav in my 02 V5,am a bit confused which systym i have got, the original disk(2001) dosnt mention dx but the box/paperwork for it that came with car says DX,is there any way of telling which you have?

It works or it doesn't it is that simple. If the unit says dynamic navigation system then it is a DX unit.

Mine just says SEAT Navigation system both on the unit and on the opening screen so that makes it non DX? what is the difference??
Apart from the ability to search by postcodes and obv the updated roads(mine hasnt even got the M6 Toll road on which is quite funny when it tries to re calculate as you go 'off road'!)are there any major differences.
Just wanna make sure which version i have got before i fork out for a new disk

I think you should be the non-dx. I have 2001 V5 and have just upgraded to a 2007 disk. I was stupid enough to buy the dx version first of all on ebay but then managed to sell it again. Someone then contacted me as they had done the same but the opposite way around. New disk is greatly improved on 2001 version.

You should find plenty on ebay for £15-30. Most are copies but work fine

Thanks for that,i think you may be right,its just a bit confusing as both types of disk are listed as being suitable for SEAT setups.I have tried a 'copy' of the DX disk today and it could not be read? So its looking like non DX-confusing aint it!

I have been told today that VW can do a software upgrade on non DX units to DX spec,has anyone heard of this/likely cost etc??

Not possible because the processor is different. They can only upgrade D-Spec DX units to G-Spec. G-Spec has the speller unction which the D-spec doesn't.

If your sat nav does not say dynamic on the front at the top left it will be a non- dx version.

cheers mate, it must be the same system as yours as it just says SEAT navigation system on the front,i bought a non dx disc of ebay tonight a tele atlas, that should be ok i hope

It might be worth checking to see if you can find a torrent of it somewhere to save a few quid.

Got my hands on a copy of 2007 non dx disc(s) works a treat -eventually,next question,how do you enter search by postcode which is supposed to be available on the newer versions??

No needs software upgrade. Don't know if it is available for the non-dx units., ask your dealer.

On my Dynamic unit you enter a postcode as a town - just start typing the letters/number in as a town.

The Dynamic unit can re-route around traffic jams using the TMC traffic data. The V5 already has the second FM tuner built in as standard, even though this was never publicised. You just need to upgrade to the (more expensive) CD that has the TMC codes. Sometimes called Itis, as that's the UK company that provides the service.

Dynamic map display looks a bit prettier too.

Yeah have tried entering postcode this way but the only ones it recognises are basic London ones like W8,E11 etc,so it looks like a trip to the dealers -just got to find a way of explaining away the dodgy discs.....

please please could someone direct me to somewhere to buy a non dx navigation for version g seat navigation (mfd) please totally lost as long as it works i dont care whether its a copy or not!

oh btw anyone reccon the peugeot mfd disks will work as i work for peugeot so myby able to get hold of one!

Hi mate,
ebay is usually the way to go ,origanals & copys you take your pick...just type tele atlas in as your search,not sure on the pug ones,have a look on the ebay descriptions they usually list compatability

Is it a VW unit or a Seat Unit??

Vw unit run until G code
Seat is a A or B unit.

If a VW G or Seat B unit then it is a DX unit
