A year ago I set my heart on a Scirocco R DSG, I was just waiting for some things to fall in place.
Now they have I'm lookiing around £20K for a 2/3 year ols one fully loaded.
I have a K1 at the moment and a new C280, thru a broker is coming in at £24K.
I'm not overly keen on the shape of the mark 3 Leon.

What would you do? (I may get a different response on a VW forum)

thanks,

Jules

P.S. whats the value of a white 58 K1@40K?

To be honest, it entirely depends what you want from the car. Personally I always found the Scirocco to be a slightly less usable Golf in a pretty suit. I mean sure its a great car still, the fit and finish is likely to be slightly better than you'd find in the Leon, but if you want is outright pace and a proper hot hatch then buy the Leon. It is after all the worlds fastest front wheel drive car. It really is brilliant.

In real world conditions there probably won't be a huge amount between the two performance wise. The Leon is easier to live with though, and provides you with an excellent package. In your shoes, I'd test drive them both and go with the one that speaks best to you.

Not sure on the value of your K1, but I'm sure some other helpful member will be along soon with some as advice!

Good luck!

They are different cars and what works for you will depend on your priorities and what is important to you. If you want it as a drivers car, I think you may find that things have moved on since the Scirocco was released and there are a few standard fit items on the 280 which would tempt me to up my budget and go with the Seat. Namely, mechanical diff, active dampers and the drive profile select are all things I'm looking forward to having.

Am I correct in thinking the Scirocco R is FWD as opposed to the haldex in the equivalent mk6 Golf R? Not certain about this, but I seem to remember it was a FWD (could be wrong though).

I always said my next car would be RWD or 4WD, but I talked myself out of it after driving the 280.

K1 would probs come in at around 9-10K pvt but less on px at a rough guess. test drove the scirocco which i hated. Pity as i think it looks really nice but to live with..........

Think you've already answered your own question if you're not keen on the shape of the new leon. £24k's a lot of money to spend on something you don't really want...

Personally I'd want the newest, highest power, model with the longest warranty - which in this case would make me opt for the new leon cupra. But, given your situation and apparent desire for a used scirrocco R your I'd suggest go with your heart to avoid the feeling you never got what you really wanted.

If things don't work out you can always trade in the scirrocco against a (by then) used cupra, or, perhaps even the cupra R will have made an appearance?!

It's not that I dislike the mark 3 it's just lost that something the 2 or even 1 had ( I had a 1 LCR)
My dad had a mark 1 scirrocco and I said I'd get a new one to honour him.

Head or heart? Been caught by that before - traded in the LCR for a saab aero after a month I hated it.

The scirrocco is fwd and has an ediff which is supposed to be good.

I'd feel sick if I bought the 280 and then they bring out an R!

Maybe the best suggestion is get the Scirrocco and buy a used 280 or even LCR 300 in the future.
Quite fancy the new Golf R but how much!!!!!

I also have 3l v6 spider in the garage!!!

Good advice guys.

Jules

if you drive them both you'll end up in the leon, at least that was my conclusion comparing the R-line scirocco to the leon FR. Yes it looks better, but having a boot is useful, the engines are better on the FR and of course its lots cheaper.

MK3 is a new chassis which is very capable, Rocco is an old chassis

Spend the extra money for the new chassis
