Hi again,

Yet another slight issue with the car (god it's never ending, lol).
When turning left, if I give it enough juice round the corner I can hear quite a loud scraping/grinding noise coming from the wheel area on the drivers side. I've tried it while turning right and it's fine. I've checked to see if the tyre is catching anywhere but TBH it's the wrong sort of sound for this. It's more of a metal on metal type scraping. I thought it might be the bearing but with the car jacked up there is no play on the wheel.

Any suggestions on what this could be?

Ta,
Damo

Cheers Saul,

Would this make the car sit funny. Sorry, it's just that I'm looking at the car out of my office window and it looks like that corner is sitting slighly lower than the other side. Maybe it's my eyesight but to me, visually, it doesn't look right.

doubt it would make it sit lower, could be more suspension based, id get it looked at if it doesnt "look" right

Could be because that side will settle a little lower, due to the fact that there is always someone in the drivers side, so the weight has settled that side of the car a little more than the passenger side, due to there not always being a passenger in the car.

id be thinking exactly wot Saul has already mentioned, outer cv was replaced on mine, had horrible noises, like metal on metal as u described

but there was play in my wheel when i jacked it up, but this could be due to how far damaged mine was (on the brink of snapping)

but as u said it looks lower, maybe a shock has gone, i know Ninja had to/wants to replace one of his seatsport shocks

If the shock is knackered wouldn't I notice this when driving? Surely it would feel a little unstable wouldn't it?
CV joint sounds most likely. Cars covered over 80K now so it must be on the cards.

I had this with a leon Cupra turned out to be a corroded wheel bearingfirst then a damaged hub managed to get a 2nd hand hub for £35 and it sorted it. But I took it everywhere before I got it sorted as it was the same as yours no play and no noise if you jacked it up or put any levers in there was nothing.

Galee

Had something like this and thought it was coming from the front.

Turned out to be my rear brake pads were worn and needed replacing.
Try turning and tweak the handbrake to see if the noise stops.

Had me stumped for a couple of weeks.

You may not be heavy, but your heavier than no passenger at all!

Lol, unfortunately I am (heavy!), just in denial. :)

I think the suspension is ok. Car handles fine and settles over bumps as it should. No sagginess at all.

At least now I've some things to check though (trapped stone, CV joint, buggered hub).

Thanks for all your help guys.

OK,

Was looking at the car last night and I adjusted the guard on the inside of the brake disc. Problem solved no more scraping!!!!!!

Now feel like a complete tool though for not sussing this sooner :hide:
