Alright all,

Ive got a couple minor scratches on the passenger side of the dashboard (roughly where the airbag is) and wondered how to get it sorted. Ive asked Seat dealer about this and they said they cant replace the dashboard as its a major job to do....is there some magic way i could resolve this myself, or is there any garages that could repair something like this?

Oh the other question is how the hell do you take the air vent rings out? Seat do some nice replacement ones in chrome or silver that i like...

cheers

Best way ive found to revove the 'white' coloured scraches - Black Boot Polish - just apply it liberally, buff off and coat with Silicon Sealant or similar. Ive built this up a few times on my car and it looks 10x better.

Side vent rings you can just pull out, just pull hard...

Me and Mike_OBD made a cool discovery getting the middle ones out... We called it "Vent Casting"

Just get 2 strong peices of wire and bend them into a hairpin-ish shape. Use it as a 'hook' to feed the wire round the vent slats. When you get the other end thru, give yourself plenty of wire to pull with good grip. DO THIS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VENT - Make sure it comes out straight at all costs!

You can either do this or un-screw the centre console - easy for those with manual AC, but a bugger for Climate users as 2 torx screws are underneath the climate box which require a wrench-style screwdriver. If you take that lot out, you can push the vents out from the inside...

Then pull really really (really!) hard.... The vent will pop out of its socket about 1cm towards you... Now stop pulling! You can then take the ring off and re-plug it in.

When your plugging them in - its useful to take apart the glove box as you can just see the side of them. Use a Torx T-20 to undo all the screws.

ILL ALSO RECOMMEND - Masking tape around the vents just incase you slip!

Good Luck :D Would offer to help, but your 250+ miles away!

wow, thanks for the advice, wasnt expecting an indepth one! ill give that a try tomorrow!

with regard to your dash scratches

warm the area up with a hair dryer then use a scouring pad (do not scrub the dash) wrap the pad over the end of your thumb press it onto the scratch hard and then twist

most of the fluffy edges or burrs of the scratch will brake off and it should look like new

I had to do some on mine and they vanished

my car already had the chrome vent surround on already when i got on the motor way just after buying the car private the vent surrounds flew off and hit me when i accelerated! plank didnt fit them properly before me [:@]
