I had damage to the lower lip of the front bumper on a previous car (mk6 Golf GTD) - I had an ‘argument’ with a 6“ - 8” tall, thin steel bar similar to steel reinforcing rod concreted into the ground in a car park. the bar took a lump out of the plastic from the bumper, and left a nice dent.
I found a good quality independent body
shop near to where I live that advertised they did plastic welding. They did a localised repair which was excellent; they plastic welded and filled the damaged area and repainted. the new paint was spot-on both in terms of colour match and finish with the original paintwork.
I know that some are of the opinion that these localised repairs can be a bit hit and miss in terms of quality of repair, paint finish and longevity and can suffer from paint fade over time, but I owned the car for nearly three more years after the repair, and it was still a 100% match with the surrounding area when I sold the car.
The cost? From memory, it cost £75 + VAT (so £90). That was in 2013, so no doubt it would cost a bit more now.
