hi there i have a 1.4 seat ibiza 1998 sxe im looking into doing an engine swap but im not shure what other motors would fit in this car i want to put in a 2.0 gti any1 know if it would fit or what i would have to do to make it fit thanks ricko

Erm, they don't

Do you mean they all fit the same subframe?

And some gearbox combinations won't fit.

dont care about the gearbox as will buy 1 to fit and the sub frame is only 4 bolts piese of piss to take out ive got the motor out all i want to know is witch will fit best without to much modification to the loom ect the only reason im doing this is becoz i just moved here from the states and i had a 7.5 caddie coupe devill 1979 mint so im used to lots of power but out here the ins is crazy stupid so i wanna hide my power plant in a lil seat so any ideas thanks ricko

Stick a 1.8T in it, with a 5 speed box. Easiest to do. VR6 engines just aren't ideal for fuel economy or tuning.

Whatever you do, the engine side loom is scrap, so everything from the fusebox forward.

gaffa tape and a hammer.




you will need ecu, pedal box and hydaulic clutch (unless you use the 2.0 16v gearbox), engine, gearbox, driveshafts and engine mounts, wiring loom, radiator, subframe, brakes, and a few other bits.

parts costs alone compared to simply buying one is a no-brainer sadly - insurance is another consideration of course

if you were going to do it you might aswell buy a 2.0 16v with high mileage, broken engine or gearbox and start from there. very few people who ask about it actually do it. e.g me.
