The thrust bearing will have no impact on performance tbh unless it is seized causing the clutch to slip. First thing to do is make sure the car is serviced properly.

the 1.4 is a terrible engine, (but we love it somehow) theres not really much you can do to get any decent performance out of it. Best idea is to drop a 1.6 golf engine in it or as the guys have said buy a cupra

I wouldn't say its terrible, it was designed for fuel economy not power and it does this well also because its low stressed you should be able to get high mileages (with correct servicing)

Touché my friend.

Best option is to make it handle well through the corners so you can "keep up", but theres not much point on working on the engine for extra power.

i was told that changing somthing like the drive shaft to a 1 litre versions would make it faster somehow, not sure if this is correct as i was very drunk when i was told.

Dont know how good they are or what sort of power gains they make. But Pipercross do a full induction kit for the 1.4 8 valve that replaces the standard airbox with something a bit tastier. About £85 posted to your door direct from Pipercross. I am toying with the idea myself but I dont want to spend that kind of money for next to no result. Has anyone fitted one of these? Are they any good?

Do not fit the kit from pipercross!! Talking about a heat soak or what!! If you're wanting something I have a pipercross viper kit with the appropriate hosing for a 1.4 so that you don't get total heat soak ;)

going to sound a bit dense but what is heat soak?
Im not really looking for performance parts for my Ibiza. Its my workhorse. If I want to go quick I get the bike out. I just chanced accross these kits whilst looking for a replacement air filter and thought.......... hmmmm!
But if you tell me that they are bad news I will take your word for it. Curious about the heat soak thing tho

lol, heat soak is when you have a open cone filter in the engine bay and it sucks up all the hot air from the engine thus making your car slower, needs a nice big cold air feed to it really.

As M87NER says it is when heat from the engine is soaked up by the filter and then put back through the engine again. Engines like cold air! So the pipercross filter you are talking about is one that sits directly ontop of the engine, heat rises, so it all goes straight back in again!

As said you need something which is away from the engine getting cool air directed to it.

Best thing to do is forget about the engine, and concentrate completely on upgrading the handling & looks.

As others have said above, the 1.4 engine is pants, and not much you can really do about it!

To put things into perspective...

my mate has a fiesta ST...so 2.0 16v out the factory with about 150bhp

Has full exhaust manifold etc...been chiped etc hes just spent some money getting a full ported head new cams a cosworth manifold etc etc...

and has made a total of......50bhp...for the cheap old price of £2500 so on a 1.4 really really not woth it...
