Hi, I'm new here and I have a problem with my '06 reg'd Seat Ibiza 1.4 Sport.
I was on a long drive last night, after about 3 hours driving the Emission Control warning light started flashing on the dashboard and the car started to lose power.
When I slowed down to a halt the engine cut out completely, with the red battery light displaying too. I was able to restart the car however it was very sluggish getting it to move anywhere. As I was very nearly home though I decided to carry on as best I could (I'm led to believe this is known as 'limp home mode'?)
Soon after the warning light became permanently lit, rather than flashing, and I was still getting the problem of reduced power and engine cutting out each time I stopped.
This morning I have restarted the engine fine, the warning light remains lit and pressing the accelerator shows no sign of reduced power. However I haven't tried driving it anywhere yet.
I was wondering, are the above symptoms common and what could possibly be the cause of it all? Reading around it looks like a lot of people get one or two of the same things happening and for a range of different reasons, but is this exact combination common?
I've had the car 18 months, regularly take it on long drives and never had a problem, until now.
Can anybody give me some advice?
Thanks
