Seems like the logical move in terms of trying to gain market share and fend off the likes of Kia who seem to do these horrid cars that sell for some stupid reason. Oh, and of course Ford with the Kuga and Nissan with the Juke (urgh!)
If people want a high up car - give it a practical boot space FFS.
The Kia Sportage had space for one suitcase. That was when we had hired it for transport in South Africa. Two people, two cases. The other one had to go on the back seats!
Maybe Seat will do something clever.

Good to see SEAT getting a little more investment in terms of new models coming through. They are good cars and could do well if they could put a car in every sector - a convertible leon would probably sell quite well, I think anyways..

We have a Kia Ceed SW CRDI as well as the new Leon. The Ceed SW is a great car, roomy, comfortable and so far totally reliable other than a leaky A/C condenser. Only the lack of a good petrol engine stopped me from considering a Ceed hatch when I bought the Leon.
As for the Sportage having a poor boot I don't have a clue where you were looking. Its huge and still manages to fit a full size alloy spare under the floor (with space for other items either side of the spare). Its on our shortlist when we possibly replace the Ceed SW later this year (as is another Ceed SW and the Leon ST - if it looks as good as the released information).
My Leon is in for service, they have lent me a Cee'd, after 30 mins I would not say the seat is comfortable, TBH I was glad to get out, I also felt I was sat on the car and not init. Also the dash rattle's each time the car body twists into a corner, they may not all do this however, but this one on 4k miles does..
Our Ceed SW is coming up 3 years old and 28,000 miles. We drive it to the north of Scotland twice a year, that's over 400 miles each way and both myself and the Mrs (both of us can be prone to aching backs if the seats are less than supportive) can get out feeling refreshed and ready to go again. Over the years we have used a Bluebird, Golf, Mondeo and Focus C-Max for this trip and the Ceed is without doubt the least tiring.
The seats in the Ceed are higher than the Leon but we like that, in truth we have the Leons seats pumped up.
No rattles whatsoever on our Ceed.
We are all different builds and shapes, seat's in my Leon are right down and they could still get away with making them go down further if room permitted. I must be simular build to the designer of seats at Seat/BMW as they suit me best, Jap/korean always have the lumbar to low within the seat for me. Totally argree about Ford, they used have the seat right but not so these days and on many model's are not bothered about the passenger seat.
You'd not buy a Cee'd based on this one, that said its no doubt had un un cared for life from day one...
We looked at a Ceed SW 6 months before we bought ours, only a few months old, total dog. When we looked again setting aside our previous experience we were more than happy.
We have had 4 VW's over the years, if we had taken the condition of one we looked at as normal we would never had got beyond number 2.
Its beyond me why dealerships allow cars to get into such a state or allow poorly presented cars to be displayed on their premises.
Worst I have ever seen was a C-Max we tested at the local Ford emporium, 6 months old and like a tip inside, dealer principals personal transport and due to be replaced.
