Morning all -

Just looking for some views on the various lease schemes that are available.

I am going to be purchasing a Leaon Fr/Cupra early next year (once holiday is out the way) and have been looking at various options etc.

One thing I have never considered is the lease approach and would be interested to hear from people who have done it before and can exlpain how it all works etc. Good/bad!

Never in my life have I wanted a car so much - Test Drove a Leon FR Diesel and fell in love with it - although think my annual mileage (approx 6-7k) is better suited to a petrol :)

I am totally in love with the Candy White version with BTCC.

Look forward to hearing from you

Paul

i bought my first ever new car this year, and bear in mind im 32 and have a past history of about 15 cars. i loved my jap stuff but wanted a diesel dog...
i then opted for looking at PCP deals and went with a brand new leon FR 170 DSG and got the btcc / aero kit fited

i love the car, for a all round mile muncher its pretty damn perfect. the paddle shift is great and the ease of lazy driving in D mode is brill.

back to PCP.
my car cost £22800 (ordered in feb this year)
i got 3500 scrappage for my old car and wanted to put £5k in cash but that had to drop to £4700 as the 3500 and 4700 came up to the max deposit level.
so that left a finance total of £14600
over 36 months i pay £251/month.

you run a bank loan calc on 36 months for £14600....it will be way more than £251

im happy with my decision and love the car but my only gripe is moving jobs so im now ONLY 5 mile from home and the car bearly warms up.....considers returning to work in aberdeen with a 300 mile commute! haha

seriously go talk figures and weigh it up. im giving it a try and so far im happy as larry

ps, bro in law just got a 60 plate ibiza fr with basically no deposit (something like £300 i think) and he did a 36 month PCP for something like £300/month

im actually considering getting a settlement figure and buying something like an M3 or RS4 simply because im on a short commute...
wanna buy my car>? lol see the link below

vt-marty - thanks for such a detailed response. Exactly what I needed, Lease defo seems the way forward for me.

SteveTDCI - from looking at the various websites it appears lease periods can be from 2-4 yeras - so as vt-marty says I will have a chat and see how the finances work out. I have budgeted £350 a month so fingers crossed that will get me something decent.

As for deposit, none at the mo, but then im not looking to get a car until feb/mar time as have a big trip to NZ coming up. As for mods - probably none other than the BTCC kit.

Buying isnt out of the question yet - but im keen to "save" money where possbile.

Stupid!!!

PCP plan's are a away for dealers get you into none stop contracts,

You give them part ex's plus deposits, you pay 'x' amount every month for 3/4/5 years and what they don't tell you is that unles you pay for the rest of the car you have to give them everything back.

E.g £6000 trade in
+
£1000 cash
+
Approx £300 a month over 4 years (£14,400 all together)
=
Grand total paid over £21,000 given to the dealer.

Then they ask for the balloon payment or give the car back. Or you start another PCP contract for another 4 years!

Simply put your an absolute moron if you even touch a PCP.

Peppermuncher - you are well within your rights to sell the car privately and clear the outstanding finance...

i.e if your approaching the end of the PCP and the balloos say £8500 plus say £1000 in payments...you owe them say £9500....

when i ordered mine the dealer took back 3x FR tdi's on 56 plate (so three years old) and he gave between £11500-£12500 p/x price so basically the owners were £2-3000 up...

same if you sold it privatley for say £13500 you woudl bankt he £4000 difference.

just trying to point out that you have more option than giving it back OR balloon payment....

even if you walked to another dealer, the p/x price they would offer is bound to be higher than the balloon thats the whole point of anticipating the future value and setting the balloon LOWER than so your always safe.

its all about being comfortable with the lease thing. if your not then dont sign up and certainly dont sign up if your not fully informed on your options at the end.

I would keep away from PCP schemes unless its your intention to keep the car 3 years and change it everytime, once your hooked in its difficult to out unless at the same time as paying your monthly payments you put money aside for the ballon payment.

Seat are currently advertising the Leon FR TDi from £230 + VAT and deposit, I would guess that the Cupra would cost somewhere in the region of £400 and you would probably get something like a nice Scirocco R for that money. GOogle car leasing and i'm sure something would come up.

I have PCP'd or PCH'd my last 3 cars.
It makes complete sense. Pay a fixed monthly amount and not give a damn about depreciation.

At the end of the contract - get the car valued, and if it has lost major value (eg. A brand new model has come out - or the next big thing has happened) and your car is worth zip - who cares - give it back. If depreciation has been kind - sell it privately, settle the finance and pocket the difference.

It's a no brainer in my view

Agreed im on a PCP with my leon 1.4tsi atm! It's a perfect way to own a new car every 3 years!!!

Im mega happy with it! :)

hmm, seems like a very feasible option to me -
I have contacted the dealer today so send me some info on all the in/outs etc.

Many thanks for all yours views - most appreciated.

I have contacted the dealer today so send me some info on all the in/outs etc.

just for your info i went to my local dealer, then the next Seat dealer about 30 mile away.
i then also went to M1 Auto's and letchworth auto centre to get quotes on the same spec car....

basically long story short they all came back with very similar prices though M1 autos wanted more cash to fit the aero kit BUT NOT the rear bumper or exhaust...

so i ended up staying local at the dealer near me....worth doing your homework though and nailing them down on prices....

good luck
