OK I have what is probably an unusual question I bought my self a cupra 300 4 drive and the previous owner had it stage 2 tuned with a 3 inch miltek exhaust system and possibly other parts it apparently make near to 400 bhp now but on normal driving I am lucky to 30mpg so can i get it downtuned a bit for better mpg or is there an option to vary the tuning so i have economy in drive mode and power in sport mode or do i have to put the car back to original parts. just trying to get an idea of my options. Thanks in advance for any advice

What fuel economy were you expecting?
well i wasnt expecting 50mpg but i had leon 190 before that did 50 mpg easily and the standard 300 does 40 so i would like to get around 35 with normal driving but i got 29.5 on a reasonable drive and back and forth to work i get 26

Real world mixed usage economy on a standard 2WD 2.0 TSI is circa 35-40mpg at a push. The likes of the Golf R or Cupra 4Drive were never realistically designed with economy in mind, plus a vehicle with AWD and modifications (especially stage 2 tuning where the CAT/GPF has potentially been removed) could contribute to a big drop in MPG (a not very efficient tune being an underlying factor).

Reverting back to stock is going to cost a substantial amount of money to replace the exhaust system, have the map removed/altered etc.

Have you considered an alternative vehicle? I only ask, as I don't think there's going to be a "one size fits all" solution.

I run a stage three tune and on a long journey I get 40mpg but I am front wheel drive so carry less weight.Do you know who did the map as it seems a little low but depends what it was mapped to do. On the track I get between 11 / 16 mpg so horses for courses I am afraid.

Make sure you declare your mods to insurance company as well

If you’ve bought a performance 2.0TFSI and you’re expecting good fuel economy, you’ve bought the wrong engine. 40MPG isn’t achievable without some considerable effort which in turn makes buying a performance car kind of pointless

If you’re expecting good fuel economy from a modified performance 2.0TFSI, you’ve gone wrong twice - however under light load/steady driving you shouldn’t notice a huge amount of difference between the two

Realistically your options are:
Buy electric
Buy a diesel
Buy a smaller petrol

Nicely put and straight to the point 👌

I've just done a short(ISH) two way trip down the motor 48 miles total. 32 mpg sat between 65-75. Had heating on, and the electric seats and steering wheel for a while. That's on Tesco momentum also and car is sat at 3800 miles.

I've done 40+ on a run before taking it steady but it was a boring trip.

Mid 30s is more usual, but short journeys I can see 14 mpg stuck in traffic.

I don't think 40 MPG combined is very realistic unless your just sitting in eco mode on the motorway inside lane.

I have a standard ST300 4Drive and regularly do 300 mile motorway trips. I get 36-38 mpg cruising at 75-80 mph, rising to 40-41 mpg if I put it in Eco mode.

Normal road driving is around 30-35 mpg, depending on my right foot.

Drove to Devon today, stopped part way, averaged 42mpg. About 180 miles including the hell around Stonehenge.

This is all I got with my driving style :ROFLMAO:

1:10.3 aka 24 mpg

My unmapped 190 tsi ST, combined gives 30-35mpg which then drops to 25mpg around town.
If I'm careful on the motorway I've seen 40mpg but then at the end of the journey I've lost the will to live.
my last car was a 190 tsi and driving an hour each way to work i easily got 45mpg I once just for an experiment drove as carefully as possible and got 55mpg on a run and the reviews for the 300 said 38mpg combined which i know is usually on the high side but i didnt think it would go so low but never mind i will just have to think of the fun rather than the consumption

Yeah unless you’ve got a plugin hybrid, you’re not getting ANY petrol car with circa 400bhp with 40+ mpg. And even then you’re not actually getting high mpg, the battery element is just masking the fuel consumption.
If you need 350bhp+ and high mpg you wanted a BMW 340d

Are you sure? I used a online converter for this

My bad sorry I was thinking miles per litre not km per litre hold on while i put my pointy hat on and stand in the corner, but having admitted my mistake and recalculating 10.3 km to the litre = 48km to the gallon 48km converted to miles is 30 so I suspect the calculator you used was an American one their gallon is only 3.8 litres compared to our 4.54 litres and would work out to be 24mpg isnt the internet wonderful it will calculate anything you want but if you are not specific it will definitely screw you over
